so many african american seniors and clinics in the bayview and mission and think of the extraordinary histraphy of the clinics and what they provided when people in these communities had no alternative. this clinic first opened in 1917 and has been serving the community through the aids epidemic, through the fentanyl crisis and now all of the things we have to deal with and so we are really grateful for her leadership so ladies and gentlemen, please welcome dr. hammer. [applause] >> good morning madam mayor and gathered guest. holly hammer director of ambulatory care for the department of public health. it is a honor to welcome you to our beautiful new marie x martinez health resource center. this brand new space, this space for healing and connection is the embodyment of a vision and culmination of years of hard work and community investment to bring the vision to realty. this new space already had a huge impact on capacity to provide humane and high quality care for our patients. the vast nujrt of whom are experiencing homelessness. we serve people in our community who face so many

last weekend, i was at the beautiful event in the bayview y, which was celebrating lunar new year and-american history month. and black history month. when is caused me to think about even though i know with the events a lot of communities are going through trauma and a lot of the trauma is upon generational, we also in this country and the city have a tremendous amount of inter~ generational resilience. events like this and last saturday are that kind of demonstrate that. every time i come to city events like this and see that i'm reminded of the resilience and the beauty in the city and excited celebrate this new year with all of you so thank you so much. . >>> an artist from the bayview helps his community go beyond the canvas. >>> the idea of, i can go where i say i want to go. >> how he wants people to use brushstrokes for better future. , we are recognizing people making a difference in their communities. we introduce you to an artist from a view that is showing us his community is going after opportunities. sometimes it is just steps away.>> reporter: meet struck on campus. this comes from intuition and an inner belief in himself. >> i always knew i would be an artist. i always felt that i was an artist. >> reporter: he taught himself to paint and sculpt with whatever supplies he could gather as a child. his award-winning work has traveled the world. >> even when i did not have the money, i said okay, i will take this canvas and travel, subconsciously to where i would like to go. >> reporter: a short walk away from his shipyard studio, he runs into childhood friends. they can laugh and smile, even when the shared past has been haunting in many ways. people getting shot at. my friends got scarred for life, right here in this area.

[gavel] >> in august 2019 construction began on the new facility at 1995 evans avenue in bayview. it will house motorcycle police and department of forensic services division. both sfpd groups are in two buildings that need to be vacated. they will join the new $183 million facility in late 2021. >> elements of the cfi and the traffic company are housed at the hall of justice, which has been determined to be seismically unfit. it is slated for demolition. in addition to that the forensic services crime lab is also slated for demolition. it was time and made sense to put these elements currently spread in different parts of the city together into a new facility. >> the project is located in the bayview area, in the area near estes creek. when san francisco was first formed and the streetcars were built back it was part of the bay. we had to move the building as close to the edge as possible on bedrock and solid elements piles down to make sure it was secure. >> it will be approximately 100,000 square feet, that includes 8,000 square feet for traffic company parking garage. >> the r
