car burglaries dropped, raj, 12% in the bayview last year, but they spiked nearly 40% just six miles away near the sunset district. so during the exact same time period, you have some areas that are experiencing less crime while others, they're neighbors less than six miles away, are seeing a spike in crime. the same numbers are telling very different stories in the same city. >> you might have seen this. district attorney brooke jenkins was on this program. among our many questions, do we need a different approach? >> i think we have taken a different approach since i took over. i mean, i walked away from this office a little over a year ago because of the fact that i felt it was headed in the wrong direction, that we weren't making the necessary decisions that we needed to for public safety. and now we are making the proper decisions. but we are not going to correct a problem overnight that took years to cause. so i think, you know, as i've asked the public for, is patience to get to the place we need to. but we are working around the clock to make sure that we are making san franc

they serve meals for needy people in the bayview district of san francisco.hey also run permanent housing and supportive housing and shelters for people who are homeless. kristen: what did this audit find? who conducted it? what were the alleged wrongdoings? >> late last year, the controller's office control -- conducted an audit and in that audit they basically found there were numerous violations of city rules on how people were being processed into shelters and housing. on top of that it found certain people were getting may be preferential treatment that shouldn't have been put there and it also had instances where there might've been financial mismanagement to the level, that they actually referred the organization to the fbi for criminal investigation. kristen: can you give me one example of mismanagement of money and one example of preferential treatment or nepotism? >> yeah, so basically it found -- the controllers audit found people were not going through the proper protocol for the coordinated entry system which is what the city designed to make sur
