heading off to the beach this month? before you stick your toes in the water you may want to know about a new report listing some of the cleanest and some of the dirtiest beaches in the united states. it lists the cleanest and dirtiest salt water beaches in the nation. the national resources defense council has analyzed three year tests of 200 beaches on the coast, the gulf coast and the west coast. the cleanest beaches, dewey, in delaware, the dirtiest, long beach, santa monica and venice in los angeles. florida's gulf beaches score better than average which is surprising considering last year's bp oil spill. >>> the report said only 4% of florida's beaches exceed the national standards four bacteria and contamination which is a great card one year after the oil spill but the bigger news is how clean delaware's beaches are which is good news for vacationers from greater baltimore looking for a close to home get away. for more of my report go go to the website and click on the money tab so you don't waste your money. >>

this is at muir beach near tennesee cove.hey are hoisting a 17-year-old girl onto a chp helicopter. she and two friends were hang out at the beach. they didn't realize the tide was coming in and they ended up stranded behind a rock and they couldn't get back to the main beach when the waves started pounding. here's how a witness describes it. >> so they are hanging out. the tide was getting out. when they tried to walk back, the wave swept them out. they didn't have time to get back around to the other side. >> reporter: the other two got back to shore on their own but the 17-year-old was swept out to sea. a man on the beach tried to rescue her. then he got caught in the currents, as well. he was just fine in the end. but by the time rescuers got to the girl, she was unconscious. she is in the worst shape of the three. the other two went to a hospital closer to marin county. the 17-year-old here in critical condition. we'll update you on her condition as that becomes available. elizabeth? >> okay, anne makovec live for us thi

you get this beautiful beach close to new york city. all of the runners if you noticed they've been drinking so much water we're out of couples. picking up cups off of the ground. filling them up splashing the runners as they go by. it's historical heat. it's a reason we're historical. it's all part of the explanation of what we're dealing with. the rarely seen combination of extreme heat and extreme humidity. now in terms of extreme heat, the numbers speak for themselves ms. look at the readings, 103 in philadelphia, around 100 in new york city. 102 in richmond. now, factor in the humidity this, is what the air will feel like on your skin. it will feel like 109 in philadelphia, 105 in new york city. 112 in richmond. look at that, 115 degrees what it's going to feel like in charlotte, north carolina. anything over 105 is potentially deadly. you've got to be careful out there. again, drink the water, everybody. take a quick peek there at the national picture. looks calm except for up around the minnesota air in. and that is a quick look

fog bank continues to hangon to the beaches. by tomorrow afternoon and we will cool down in the beginning of the week as the next weather system approaches, it will bring with it cooler air and a deeper fog bank to last through midweek before that one mixes out with a bit of a warming trend for the weekend. now as usual we will expect the clouds to give way to afternoon sunshine around the bay here as once again we'll look for temperatures close to today maybe a degree or two warmer especially in the interior where the mid-80s will prevail and east bay in the upper 70s and on the peninsula and at the beach we are back in the mid 60s and in the fog out along the bay and that fog will likely hang onto the beaches through most of tomorrow afternoon and like it did today. the cooler air in the area beginning of the week as below normal temperatures and pretty much across the board until wednesday and things will start to heat up for next weekend and we will be back to normal which means a few more normals out across the interior and
