the beach chalet soccer fields, the purpose why we're here today. again this photo shows the existing conditions and the proposed solution on the right. the present condition is grass field. the the soccer fields are currently fenced with an eight-foot link -- chainlink fence around the facility and it's currently closed about half the time during the year and is only used through formal permit and reservation process. next slide. so a little bit more. the soccer field at the west end of the park hads been in existence more than 75 yards -- years and it's one of our three primary athletic facilities. during the fall more than 1,500 kids and 600 adults play at beach chalet every week. the soccer field in scale, golder gate's total is, this is less n -- than 1% of the fat -- facility. current condition, the fields are closed for rents about 50% of the time as a mentioned. it's only open by reservation and closed before 3:00 p.m. most week days, closed every monday throughout the year and closed due to winter season conditionsnd staff maintenance needs

south of a slope where there has been a significant beach erosion. the idea is to use the same staff -- the same santa to construct a dune that would serve as a bluff to protect waste water infrastructure. this is referred to as a soft solution. historically, we have used part revetments in that area but this soft solution is favored by the public and the national park service. it could be a win/win. we could move sand from one part of the beach where we have too much to another part where it could have some real benefits, including protecting some of our waste water infrastructure being threatened and at the same time prove public access to the beach at both locations. since the city and national park service could cost share, it could save money while beginning to address the problem. the park service, along with the severance is the public utilities commission and dpw have a sketch that with the public -- with the program should look like. have sketched out a program to see if there is support for the idea. the next step is to get a series of appr

i am in support of the plan for beach chalet. when i first moved to san francisco, the program was actually canceled. we practice once a week for one hour. due to field conditions, we have had to cancel over half of the practices, deal with minor injuries, compete with adult themes for field space. this project would increase playing time, allow been the kids to further develop individual teams -- a lot and the kids to fellow -- for develop individual teams and life skills. i would like to request approval and may for beach chalet to move forward. thank you. president fong: ok. i want to turf beach chalet. i have 400 boys out on the field day i have done for the last nine years. i cannot tell you how many injuries i get on a field day from the boys on that field. i am also up at night, wondering if the field will be closed. i have to have a backup plan. as i call to get a reservation, every year, there is a tossup whether it will be closed, if they want 400 kids on the field. if we had more turf fields, public schools and independent schools would use them during the day. i pay considerable right to rent the field during the day. that is more revenue to the park. that is for the use of turf fields. nobody wants to go out. nobody wants 400 kids during the day, because they are afraid it is winter ruin these grass fields.

we had erosion on the south end of ocean beach. we have a very important piece of infrastructure there. we have these sandbags out there now. on the north end of ocean beach, they have an abundance of scent. the national park service has had a bulldozer on the beach pushing the sand back into the ocean. we have been partnering with them to see if we can pick up that sand and dropped it down to the south end of the beach. -- truck it down to the south end of the beach. to create a buffer area to protect our infrastructure. the national park service has been working with us and we are going through the permitting process with our department of public works, as you can imagine, the sand is blowing on to the roadway. this is a win-win situation. we hope that it is successful and that we can continue this in the coming years as well. if you have any questions, i am here to answer those. >> thank you. >> of the sewer system improvement program validation process, we have been talking about it for a long time. it is time to come to some c
