like you said this is normally a public beach behind me. no beach. the tides are running about four to five feet above normal. the high tide occurred in the last half hour or so. you can see how high the water is. this sea wall is a 17-foot wall that protects the city from storm surge. you can see with the tides running about four to five feet high, it's definitely coming high up on the wall, but still a good six or seven feet protection there. galveston got batdtered in 2006 by hurricane ike. flooding is the biggest concern with this storm. houston got 15 inches of rain in may. could see an additional foot from this storm alone. in fact highway 87 to the east of galveston island ordered voluntary evacuations. that's a very low lying area one road in one road out. flooding already occurring along highway 87. officials said if something happens, we won't be able to get to you, so get out while you can. schools are closed. obviously the beaches are closed. if this thing is going to push inland for the next several hours, should be downgraded to a tropi

a rare and frightening scene on one north carolina beach. two teenagers each losing an arm in shark attack. jonathan: so scary and so rare when you think about it. the teenagers recovering now but the news is worrying beach-goers. the team coverage begins with abc's elizabeth hur. elizabeth: with the eyes on the water from choppers and boats, officials in oak island north carolina are keeping vigilant to tell us that shark attacks in the area are extremely rare. >> i have not encountered in 16 years one shark attack. >> to have two almost in the exact same place -- >> completely out of the ordinary. elizabeth: after two attacks in less than two hours, two teens doctors say face a long recovery after losing limbs in steep water. >> what is your emergency? >> oh, my gosh another one. another one. >> hello? >> shark. elizabeth: the first attack happened 4:00 sunday afternoon. a girl bit in arm and leg had to be dragged out of the water by bystanders. 90 minutes later two miles away, another call for help for a 16-year-old boy was also attacked.

a pair of shark attacks along the same north carolina beach has beach goers on edge. reporter alison ham lin tells us this follows another shark on tack on the beach in the same county last week. >> it was the start of the tiny coastal resort summer season and the late afternoon calm was interrupted by screams for help. the first victim was a 12-year- old girl. people ran to her aid. she was bleeding heavily and lost part of her arm and was severely bitten on her left leg. about 90 minutes later about two miles away on the same stretch of beach a 16-year-old boy was attacked and lost his left arm. >> i've been here 16 years and this is the something as maim as this has happened. >> last thursday along a stretch of beach in the same county a 13-year-old girl was also attacked by a shark. she suffered minor attacks to her foot. the boogie board got the worst of it. >> crews are on the scene of a natural gas line explosion in south texas that happened last night at an energy company facility. there are no reports of injuries but about seven homes were evacuated as a prec

but what about the beaches? how are they doing? well it's all about the wind direction at the beach. you got a west to northwest wind, that's a land breeze so doesn't matter how cold the ocean is it's 87 in avalon, 88 in beach haven. that west wind if it's strong enough, makes a big difference. tomorrow it will be a southwest wind. that should help cool things down at the shore while everybody else gets hotter. the heat advisory is for inland areas, generally near the i-95 area from trenton down to wilmington. we don't have anything on the radar right now close by but we do have some showers and storms getting a little bit closer. michigan down toward chicago, even that area not all that impressive right now. there is a risk of at least some severe storms brief severe storms, in any part of the area tomorrow while the highest risk of that is up in new england. the highest risk of the type of severe weather is clearly the wind threat tomorrow. very little threat of a lot of rain because it just wouldn't last very long. so the damagi

west wind keeping the beaches warm. we haven't seen much of that. 83 in avalon 85 in beach haven. some of the highest temperatures we have seen in quite awhile. you can see a lot of showers and storms in northeastern pennsylvania northern new jersey, new york. another big cluster down near washington and then a pretty large area without much going on. so let's focus on where we do have stuff going on. it is generally in the pocono mountains down toward northampton county and extreme northern bucks county. this is really the upper portion of bucks county, just below easton. which got grazed by that last shower. they're moving in the same direction so some places are getting rained on over and over while most of us are not seeing anything. there's a lot more activity back out to the west. that is what's going to be moving in tomorrow. so as we watch these storms go by, you can see on the future cast hour by hour some scattered showers developing across parts of the area and then it all falls apart as the sun goes down the energy is lost for helping fuel those storms and then tomorro
