"we have fights here that are alcohol related too and when it gets to that point i think something needs to be done when park users have safety concerns about what's happening on our beaches." park ranger fairley says the majority of the alcohol issues happen on the beaches. he says some county parks and federal recreation areas, like coralville lake, already ban alcohol on beaches. the eventual closure of the sheltered workshop at options of linn county has led to some new opportunities for people with disabilities. a federal rule change means the sheltered workshop program sometime next year. many of the people who worked in the program have switched to a day habilitation program that includes opportunities for volunteerism. one small group recently helped repair books that police will give to kids. linn county has made arrangements with 25 different community nonprofit groups to provide volunteer jobs for the former workshop participants. s

from venice beach, scott westerberg kcrg-tv9 news. today might end up being the busiest day ever at the eastern iowa airport in cedar rapids. in addition to the normal 15-hundred to two thousand people traveling on scheduled airline flights, an extra 13 charter flights were heading to los angeles for the rose bowl. that added another three thousand passengers to the airport's total. the airport director says they'll tally up the numbers airport set a single day record. although the passengers had to wait in long lines, there were happy fliers. here's a live look... 900 acres near solimar beach in ventura county. that's about 70 miles northwest of los angeles. authorities issued a mandatory evacuation order for solimar, and voluntary evacuations for nearby faria beach. here's some aerials taken earlier of the fire.... the famous pacific coast highway is shut down, and officials have also halted railroad traffic. no word yet on what started this fire. we are tracking this and will continue to bring you the latest updates. thanks carlo... we turn now to a developing story... a valley is desperatly searching for her missing husband againtoday. 72-year-old wallace inkenbrandt was last seen leaving his home to run an errand on thursday. the search has led police all the way to the california state line. as you can imagine, it's been a very emotional few days for the family. his wife says wallace left the house thursday morning and headed to the walmart near craig and mlk. relatives visiting from out of town. at about noon - she got a text from him saying he was almost home - but he never showed up.
