beach volleyball is normally associated with the beaches of brazil.ne lewis went to meet them. edinburgh‘s portobello beach and the dog walkers are out in force. and until recently, it was also where you‘d find scotland‘s beach volleyball players honing their skills. but the beach in winter doesn‘t exactly make for ideal training conditions. during the recent chilly snap we had, this sand here was packed hard. today, it‘s really damp and it‘s really heavy as you can see. now it‘s not exactly uncomfortable temperature—wise here. it's uncomfortable temperature—wise here. it‘s not overly windy either. of course, that can all change. the posts that normally hold the volleyball nets are here. but the people who normally train here have had to make alternative arrangements 120 tons of sand later, problems solved. a transformation was under way, from empty barn to volleyball minus the elements. we've got amazing quality of sand here. we‘ve got the light. if we can go down to portobello beach and the sand is frozen we can‘t train. to guarantee ourtraining, fr

authorities say that he fell from a cliff high above muir beach.here are still unanswered questions about how that happened. ktvu's henry lee reports. >>> reporter: 21-year-old tyler silva was last seen on the cliffs above muir beach on december 3rd. a week later his body was found two miles way in the waters near stinson beach by kayakers. >> the top of a cliff to his death 600 feet below, which is the height of the space needle. >> reporter: while authorities think he fell from the cliff, the circumstances leading to the fall are a mystery. his mother wants answers. >> i think that anything is possible. i don't know what happened to my son. i was not there. but somebody else may have been. somebody else may know something more than the secondhand information that i have been given. >> reporter: on the day he went missing, silva drove to muir beach in a rented dodge charger or challenger with a woman whose identity hasn't been made public. >> they at some point was separated and there was no other information provided. >> reporter: silva was athle

a person has drowned while snorkeling at a beach in maui. of the men who died are from the bay area... the latest victim is a 71-year-old man from berkeley. he was found face down in the water about 100 yards off the beach. we spoke to dive instructor, john lathbury, who says snorkeling is not as easy as it may seem... <"people think its easy to do and you can just throw on a mask and snorkel and there you go, and you really should probably have a little bit of training and, uh, if you're smart, you'll actually ask the locals about conditions.">( james ) several of the victims were alone in the water when they drowned... lathbury suggests swimming in pairs and to always wear a life-jacket.
