the city of long beach is also closed their beaches. the spill happened on thursday in carson after a 48 inch sewer main line failed. the california office of emergency services originally said anywhere from 2 to 4 million gallons of untreated sewage flowed into the dominguez channel which ends at the los angeles harbor at the port of la. it's now believed is more like 8.5 million gallons of sewage. crews have been working on cleaning up the mess and temporarily fix the sewer line according to los angeles county sanitation district. the spill was completely stop friday. and actually this pipe was set to be replaced in the near future. the cause of this bill is not known but county officials wonder if record breaking rain. we saw this past week played a role la county supervisor janice hahn want an investigation into the cause. in a statement, she said a sewage spill of this magnitude is dangerous and unacceptable and we need to understand what happened. she wants to know aging or fall to infrastructure was involved. >> erin myers report
