in the women's beach volleyball. what happened? >> reporter: yeah, that's right, the dream is over for, arguably, the greatest beach volleyball player of all time, kerri walsh jennings, she was coming into this olympic games 26 games undefeated. she's never lost an olympic beach volleyball match tonight and she was going for her fourth straight olympic gold medal but you know what? they fell to the brazilians, she and her partner april ross, they lost in two straight sets and it was very close indeed, 22-20 in the first set and 21-18 in the second, but they had the crowd behind them tonight. they are, of course, the brazilian number two pair, the biggest win of their career and as you were saying, what added to the tension tonight is that the brazilian women's football team had just lost in their semifinals to sweden, so there was a lot riding on this result tonight, and walsh jennings hasn't lost an olympic games now since 2000, afterwards -- after the match, she said it hurt badly. however, they will be back, remember, to compete

they just didn't stop, they at copacabana beach showing us where beach volleyball is being played. >> welcome to the famous copacabana beach in rio de janeiro, a suburb about one hour bus ride from the main olympic park. >> one of the most iconic beaches in the world. 2.5 miles of sandy beautiful landscape. what is going on here. so, this spot in the morning is like work out heaven. >> we saw people first thing in the morning playing beach volleyball, there is little workout tents, you can do workouts. a lot of joggers. one thing that was interesting, people jogged in flip-flops. >> everyone does everything in their flip-flops. surfing section, we have seen surfers enjoying the waves already today. >> there are about 160,000 people who live in this area of rio on copacabana, 25% are retired, it is becoming a bit of a retirement community, during the olympics there has been a big boost in sales around the beach. >> you can hear the helier part of the coverage you get to enjoy at home. they have aerial cameras going over the beach volleyball venue, there is a match going on right now. >
