what is the message from cheri beasley and budd? >> this is a community with republicans and democrats and unaffiliated voters. many are planning to vote split ticket. they don't have affinity for either party right now. cheri beasley, the democrats closing message, she is going to be an independent democrat. she breaks with the biden administration and is for lowering cost and managing inflation and fighting for abortion rights and trying to codify row roe. and for ted budd, you should vote for him if you want to send a message to the biden administration. you want a change. he has really taken the economy and inflation to connect with voters who are worried about the cost of living right now. wily nichol, the democrat who is running in the tight congressional race, is here shaking hands and talking to voters. in this area of the state, people are really looking for the voters who might be crossing lines, who are going to think about this very big picture, who are going to be much more issues-focused, than party-focused. this distr

the same thing we said for kelly and warnock and fetterman, cortez masto, beasley. the list is long. these are all new people. we understand their states. they are targeting voters. i think the election is going to be a good election for democrats come tuesday. >> new hampshire campaigned with senator maggie hassan this week. we see president biden, vice president kamala harris, former president barack obama, all campaigning throughout the country. do you feel the democratic body was successful in making its case to the american folk for why it should retain its majority? >> we will know the answer to that question on wednesday morning. if you take a look at what democrats have done on infrastructure -- prescription drugs, some of which we talked about, -- if you look at what we've done with roads and bridges and broadband. if you look at what we've done for veterans, making sure they get the benefits that they've earned. the list is really, really long now. i think our candidates out there talking about it, i certainly have been talking about it. i'm very proud of

so things going really well here >> judge beasley this is alex wagner. animating voters when a lot of other issues tend to get at the top of the list, when we talk about the, economy immigration, a lot of republicans are animated by that. you feel like democrats are coming out specifically an issue of abortion in north carolina? >> >> abortion is is a real issue and a constitutional protection of abortion is real issue. and the majority of carolinians, like the majority of americans support the framework is aligned and roe v. wade. so it is a real issue. actually ted budd, came out with the most extreme position on, this reporting an absolute ban on abortion, without exceptions for rape or incest, or risk mothers helps. that means is a woman with an ectopic pregnancy, or a septic uterus, or in this carriage, that her body one released, it means that these will not be able to get the lifesaving treatment of, beneath which is an abortion, and that women will die. -- i will be fighting hard. i'll fight quite make sure that roe v. wade is the lava land. >> a

cheri beasley says what about him?we pay more in this country for prescription drugs than any other country in the world and congress can fix that. we also know that corporations are seeing 70-year record profits and using the cover of inflation to jack up prices on things that we need. congress can fix that and ted budd has been in congress and rather than fixing it he's helping it taking thousands of dollars from big pharma and voting against lowering the cost of prescription drugs and taking thousands from big oil. >> fascinating to see if she can pull it off. national headwinds are -- >> that's a race to watch for sure. there's a lot going on in north carolina but we did mint several billionaires out of the pandemic. what goes up must come down and if you were -- took advantage of those mortgage rates, of those refinance rates, of those low car rates, of the retail frenzy that happened out of the pandemic, if you're one of those and part of that industry, you're feeling it now because now the government is saying,

everything that joe biden has done and sherry beasley, my opponent, would do makes it harder on votersoters were asked who they trusted more on inflation, and they said republicans 48.8% versus 39.is -- 39.1% for democrats. how can you change the scenario? >> well, inflation, go back to that definition, too much money chasing too few goods. you've got to stop pumping trillions of dollars in there essentially to buy votes, which is what joe biden has done and what sherry beasley would do. let's stop all this excess money. starts back in april of 2021 when joe biden pumped trillions into the economy. the other thing, you've got to right-size and is roll back regulations. you've got to bring accountability back to congress. let congress make decisions and people that are elected by the people to make decisions rather than runaway bureau is -- bureaucracies. if you do those things, we'll be well on our way to getting back on the right track in our country, but joe biden's9 and the democrats' ideology doesn't allow them to solve this problem. maria: you want to go from the house to the sena

winning is gonna be tough for beasley.ts have only won two senate races in the last 30 years. joining me now is a reporter live in winston-salem, north carolina. it is great to see you back on the show. you recently spoke with republican nominee, the congressman, ted budd. what did he have to say ahead of election day? >> right now, congressman is really focused on inflation and the economy. those the issues that republicans believe already winning issues for them when it comes to voters here. when i talk to people consistently, it is a inflation in the economy, it is abortion. what he is doing right now, literally right now, he is out knocking on doors. he is trying to get people to participate in the early voting. he wants to make sure they show up on tuesday. i was with him in the western part of the state. this is a friendly area. there are a lot of rural counties. it was plus 36 for trump. you know, friendly. he was talking to people in many cases. he was voting for them. he tried to remind them to get friends and fam

>> hey alex, we'll, right now sure beasley is actually talking to a group of voters here for a souls to the polls event. as you mentioned, this is the last day of early voting. many of these people have already actually voted. her message to them right now is that they need to get their friends, their family, particularly young people in their lives off of the bench, often sidelined, and really into this thing. gotta get ready to vote, either before 3 pm today, or on voting day on tuesday. she has run a really interesting campaign. most democrats in north carolina run up their numbers in just the urban centers. but she has been in every single county in north carolina, and she spent a lot of time in small towns, in rural areas, in church backyards like the one going on right now, talking to people, answering their questions, shaking hands in hopes that she can create and more you need a democratic coalition that includes rural voters, people that feel, unheard and gets them to the polls. take a listen to a conversation that i've had with a busy voter, a young woman voting to why it's

and a lot could change still across the next six days in the race against democrat sherry beasley. and this is a state with some of the highest numbers of unaffiliated voters and undecided voters of all backgrounds and the kind of voters are angry on one hand with the biden administration, and the economy, and the cost of living and looking at inflation and their pocketbooks and then also voters who are in many cases as i talked to them concerned about the state of women's reproductive rights, and worried about abortion access here in north carolina and around the country, and many of those voters are people who they are trying to reach. one of the things pence does for a candidate like bud is sometimes moderate some of the message. he has long had, former president trump's endorsement, but bringing out mike pence reaches some other voters for whom the trump endorsement was not sure. take a look at the remarks. >> and coming back to the north carolina gop headquarters less than a week away we sent ted bud to a republican majority in the united states senate. i'm here because i supp

which is a huge issue. >> congressman ted but has been pulling just ahead of sherry beasley. factors. a really high proportion of unaffiliated voters. a lot of undecided folks. some of which i've talked to, still have not made up their mind just a couple days out from the election. so both candidates are not resting on their laurels and going on to 100 counties in the state trying to turn off the vote. back to you! >> meanwhile, the economy remains a top issue for voters. it could be good news for democrat, or bad news. the last job report, is coming in a little bit better than expected. we had 261,000 jobs, in about 60,000 more than what most economists were predicting. still, it is a mixed bag with the unemployment rate ticking up. nbc news business data reporter barnett shang takes us inside of the numbers. >> it was a busy week in the economy has we got a number of data releases showing us a picture of where we stand ahead of the key term -- midterm election next. we'll start, wednesday with the federal reserve, the nation's economic steward, announced it would be raising

you're not going to get candidates like beasley, ryan if the national party doesn't back them. >> one of the points he was making is he has to bring members back and nevada is the place where -- i saw you nodding along as scott was talking. is nevada your pick if you were to look at that map of vulnerables and say which one am i the most worried about today? >> democrats -- i worked in nevada before and democrats freak out about nevada. one thing that troubles me is 2020 was too close for comfort and then now as we're heading into the midterms, i think that turnout is not where it needs to be compared to the last midterm election. and that makes democrats a little bit nervous. i'm also a little bit worried there is this whole conversation about the right ward shift of latino voters. i don't think latinos will go to republicans. i worry about them turning out. >> you cannot under estimate the hangover. not even a hangover. it's like they're still feeling it of covid in las vegas and how much people are hurt because of the economic struggles. it's the case across the board. a place driv
