eyewitness news reporter mark becker is live at the east charlotte apartment complex where police spent hours trying to gather evidence. >> reporter: erica, it's going on more than six hours and they are still working. released the names of the people involved, either the one who was killed or the ones who were injured. but the shootings have raised new concerns about the ongoing violence in our community. >> all these cops all over here. >> reporter: it's badly almost routine, shots ringing out in apartment complexes, businesses, and homes. two days ago in the span of eight hours in charlotte, six people were hurt in four separate shootings, and this morning, family members tell us that a domestic disturbance ended in death. >> i am just so tired of going to funerals for african- american guys. >> reporter: this time the funeral she is going to is a family member, a young man who tried to help his mother in a this is only the 6th homicide in charlotte this year and each left a scar that runs deep. >> it's hurtful that every two or 3 days, a mother is having to bury a child, a son. >> r

mark becker is continuing the coverage there tonight. the explosion at the brussels airport happened inside of the departure area. >> it did. >> it happened right here outside of the security checkpoint we all have to go through. there was no credible threat, but tsa tells us that security here today was very evident. to miss today, outfront officers kept cars moving and took those - - took some inside of the terminal. officers and dogs will - - work clearly visible. the security was on the line for passengers here as well. drug david was on his way to houston. if he had been traveling overseas, he said overseas, he said he may have stayed home. the airport whole - - did hold a conference but they did not address any response to the bombings in brussels and generally don't talk about security plans but they have focused attention on areas outside of security checkpoints. the airport and tsa have said many times they would take a it as well. >> i just want to get to new york safely. drove brenda was more than a little nervous but it was a

eyewitness news reporter mark becker explains passengers are still uneasy in the wake of these attacks. mark. >> reporter: yeah, i think, stephany, it is hard not to be after something like that because it is an airport and one brussels this morning, 2 bombs going off and it was outside the security area. they did have a briefing here this morning, but it was to talk about spring break, whimp will be in-- which will be in full bloom and they did not take specific questions about security response to what happened in brussels early this morning. but it is certainly on the minds of many here. we have seen a good deal of security, in fact, around and outside of the tsa check points and it is hard to say it is more than usual but it has been very visible. there is an obvious police presence, including a couple trained dogs sniffing around the check-in counters. that, of course, is where one of the bombs went off at the airport in brussels. passengers we spoke with are certainly wary of security and at the same time had not let it change their plans, but again, traveling out of the country

now eyewitness news reporter mark becker spoke to troopers about the moments leading up to the crash. >>> the highway patrol tells me they're still working on their investigation. in fact, that report itself may not be released for several days. the man who was killed. a man trying to help a woman on the side of the road made a terrible mistake. 26-year-old alex was hit and killed as he stopped to help a woman with a flat tire on i-485 at 4:00 yesterday morning. the highway patrol says that he was actually standing in the travel lane on 485 when the van hit him. he'd only been there a matter of moments when he was hit and the highway patrol says there's no indication that the driver of the van who did hit him was impaired in any way. but they'll have to wait for blood tests before deciding on possible charges. >> right now we're waiting on the blood results to come back. once we get all the information. we'll contact the district attorney and present our case to them. and maybe they'll decide what charges we'll have if any. >> the highway patrol has identified the driver of that van a

reporter mark becker is live in west charlotte. and mark, this is charlotte's sixth shooting in just a week. >> that has really had an impact on the community here, stephanie. but this incident happened about 3:00 this morning. in fact, it was about 3:30 that the victim in the case was walking up along roselyn avenue, knocking on doors, looking for help. he told police he had been driving on rozzelles ferry road when he was shot and carjacked and police are still looking for his car and that suspect. our camera was there early this morning as medics wheeled that victim who works as a security guard into a ambulance. he had been shot in the arm and the leg. and he's expected to be okay. he told police he was driving in the neighborhood along rozzelles ferry road when a man flagged him down claiming he needed help. then the security officer said the suspect shot him and took his car. earlier this morning collecting evidence in this case. but so far they have no suspect. the key missing piece is that security guard's car. a silver toy

eyewitness news reporter mark becker poured through the more than 100 page report to break down these new numbers. >> alison, this report gets into interesting details. for example, seven guns found in charlotte mecklenburg schools in 2014/15. also 258 school personnel were reported assaulted. but it also suggests that one of the strategies they're taking to work with discipline problems here is working. the report addresses crime and punishment in the classroom from just about every angle. over all the number of crime reports was up 2% last year. short-term suspensions, ten days or fewer were up 5%. while long-term suspensions, 11 days or more dropped slightly by 1%. here at charlotte mecklenburg, the number of crime reports rose by 14%. while short-term suspensions and long-term suspensions more than tripled. up 318%. and once again, a large percentage of those suspended here and across the state last year were african american. we took the report to school board members who were meeting on other business this afternoon but they told us they hadn't seen the numbers and didn't feel c

his eyewitness news reporter mark becker has been asking community mourns. >> i checked with police this morning and they said they don't anticipate releasing new information at this point on this case. it unravelled here in east charlotte on saturday morning. it is one also that hits home for the police department because the victim had been a dispatcher at cmpd at one point. >> friends told us that jeff johnson had worked in security and before that was a dispatcher at cmpd. he was found shout and killed along central avenue about 10:00 saturday morning. people living near by told us that they actually heard gunfire much earlier that morning around 2:00 a.m. those neighbors we spoke with described johnson as a fun loving and popular guy who was something of a night owl and would walk in the neighborhood here late at night. they can't imagine why anyone would have shot and killed him. >> i contacted johnson's family us they're devastated, not ready to say anything yet but that may we will stay in touch with them and the police and have the latest at 5:00 on eyewitness news. eyewitness n

that's the view of greg becker, who heads up silicon valley bank. the california-based lender has today published its annual survey of tech startups. that shows entrepreneurs a replaced unbridled optimism with rational restraint. nancy spoke to mr. becker yesterday and asked what those surveyed, what they thought of a potential brexit. >> we do every year a survey of our clients both domestically and internationally. more than 900 clients were surveyed. a little less than 200 were from the u.k. we asked them this question about the potential for brexit. 72% of them said it would negatively impact their business, which is a pretty substantial number. >> and i want to get your view on valuations because that's been a key topic as we talk about volatility in the marketplace kicking off the year here. some have said ipos have become the new down round for startups here. do you agree, and what do you see in terms of the appetite for hitting public markets versus m&a? >> you look at valuations in a couple different ways. one is the public side and one is

eyewitness news reporter mark becker is here to break down what's being done to find this man. >> erica, those incidents happened over the course of several months here at sheffield neighborhood park. but police believe they are related. and i did speak with one of those victims today. she spoke to us in spanish and she ask that we not show her face. she said she was walking in the park with her 2 small children when the man grabbed her and she told police he sexually assaulted her. grabbing her backside with both hands. >> i was very afraid she told me because i didn't know what he would do to me or my children. police believe it was at least the second incident in this park involving that same suspect described as a short latino man in his 20s or early 30s. in one other the victim told police he'd exposed himself to her. >> we, you know, of course take this all very, very seriously. >> lieutenant christian wagner told us the suspect was gone by the time officers got here that day but police have since set up cameras here hoping to spot the suspect. no luck so far. but they're still wa

. >> today eyewitness news reporter mark becker found out how they tracked her down and asked why the keys were left inside the emergency vehicle. >> a fully loaded ambulance is probably the last vehicle you'd expect to find stolen and this is probably the last place you'd expect to have it disappear from. the hospital. but that's exactly what happened last night at about 11:00. the ambulance crew had gone into the emergency room here at their truck open for just a few minutes. >> all the trucks have the keys in the ignition. >> medic spokesman told us it's standard procedure to leave keys in the ignition at the hospital so crews can focus on patient care. but when they got back out last night the truck was gone. >> we notified dispatch immediately and we were able to see exactly where the truck was and get cmpd in route. >> all medic ambulances had gps units and they tracked it out to albemarle road near harrisburg where police were finally able to stop it. and where they found 34-year- old autumn behind the wheel. a woman other crews remembered seeing at the emergency room. >> this
