your fut now, becky quick. here is a look at what is making news. a much stronger expected jobs more for the month of february. economy creating 295,000 new jobs last month and the unemployment rate fell to 5.5% wage growth though is slow but the strength in the economy could increase the chances that the federal reserve who raise interest rates. that helps send stocks down in early trading on friday and they continued down later in the day. earlier in the week the nasdaq did something it hasn't done in over 15 years, closing above 5,000 on monday. but it had that number for about a total of 60 minutes before falling opt tuesday open. auto sales rose in february though slightly less than expected. it was at least in part because of bad weather. gm up 4%. ford down 2%. chrysler up 6%. and toyota up 13%. it is the end of an era for ringling brothers barnum & bailey circus. the circus said it will no longer use elephant acts lie the year 2018. they have been met by protesters with how the elephants are treated. >>> warren buffet turned over berkshire h

now becky quinn. >> here's a look at what's making news as we head into a new week on the money. the size and strength in the final quarter of the year was unchanged. it showed the gross domestic product grew 2.2%. corporate profits fell, but consumer spending was strong. it was a wild week. the dow fell nearly 300 points and the nasdaq by 2%. it all came on disappointing economic news and the weakening dollar. the markets were mixed. a disappointing sign. durable goods order sold by 1.4%, well below expectations. they are long lasting manufactured items like washing machines and refrigerators and calculating the gross domestic products. imagine cheesy ketchup. it may not be what kraft and heinz had in mind when they merge and became the fifth largest food and beverage company. it was funded by 3g capital and by berkshire hathaway. sales of existing homes fell over january according tn of re. websites and real estate data firms like zillow make housing stats that used to be closely held. things like sale prices for every home. it's online to everyone. stan humphries is the chief

cnn's becky anderson is live for us this morning. becky, this is a conflict in an important country that threatens to become a regional instability. that is a real problem. >> reporter: the consequences of this are remarkable. this is what we know. saudi arabia war planes targeting runways in two air bases and sites and houthis strongholds strongholds. reported heavy shells. we are seeing the aftermath of the video coming in to cnn. this is slugged operation decisive storm by the saudis. if reports are to be believed they built a couldllisionuldalition with teeth. now it is unclear the extent to which the regional allies are involved. they say they wish to restore stability in the country racked by the coup orchestrated against the saudi and u.s. backed ally hadi. for context, houthis militia are iran backed shi'a minority and have taken the capital of sanaa. the president is now, we believe on his way to saudi or oman. why is this happening? yemen is saudi's neighbor to the south and they are concerned about what they see as iranian

. >> good morning, becky. the search teams, the search helicopters are going back and forth here to the crash site where they're removing body parts, jewelry, clothing anything that can identify the ones that died on that plane and they're being brought back here to be examined. but the main focus of the investigation is in germany and they're looking into the background of the 27-year-old copilot. in particular what happened to him six years ago. in 2009 he was training to be a pilot at the training school in phoenix arizona but he had a severe, what was called a severe depressive episode and his training was suspended. it was suspended for 1.5 years because he was designated as not suitable for flying. he then retook some of his courses but on his pilot's license there was still a code that designated that he suffered from depression in the past so obviously investigators are looking at that. it's also said that he broke up with his girlfriend of 7 years recently so people are looking at his personal life as

good morning, steve. >> yeah becky.initively the fed has run out of patience. take a look at the data. 38 economists fund managers and analysts responding to our survey in the month of march. 69% saying the word "patience" will be removed from the statement. you can see that's a pretty good change from the prior survey which was in january. where you needed to get to april to get 50%. then there was a good chunk down in june. but i think it was that strong jobs report that really changed things around. let's take a look now at the fed timeline per our respondents to the survey. the word "patience" comes out here in march. then when is the first rate hike? it had been september. now it's seen as august of 2015. so a little later in the summer. the balance sheet begins to decline in april of 2016. that's the same as it was prior. and then when does the fed get done hiking rates? it was in the first quarter of 2013. so these are averages. moving back it doesn't matter all that much. the terminal rate the fed stops hiking t

cnn's becky anderson joins me now live from where those talks were taking place. and becky, with talks of what happens next, that is a loaded question in this troubling scenario in yemen. >> reporter: that's right. and ground troops, the specter of ground troops will be concerning to the international community who will be watching what happens here. the president, as you pointed out, has arrived here to the red sea resort town for the summit of arab leaders with the crisis in yemen front and center. now egypt's president will open things shortly. and by close of play tomorrow, sunday, weship expect a resolution -- we should expect a resolution in support of the saudi-led offensive targeting houthi rebel backed by riyadh's regional rival, iran. that resolution could be wider at this stage, as well. looking to an arab military force for the future. now the saudis are calling this determination storm. they've been targeting locations in north and south yemen over the past 24 hours. we know particularly the land along the saudi poureder where they say houthi rebels w

and our becky anderson joins us now from abu dhabi with more. becky, of course the big question here that everyone's asking is, how imminent is a ground invasion in yemen? >> reporter: well, i spoke to the yemeni foreign minister over the weekend, the arab summit in egypt. he said it could be within days. and i quote him on that. i mean, things clearly moving very quickly on the ground, as a result of what is going on from the air as this saudi-elderly coalition attempt to degrade these houthi rebels on the ground. to the report you have been alluding to so far as a refugee camp was concerned. yesterday the defense ministry holding a press conference in saudi and saying that houthi rebels are plant iing militia i amongst refugees and other residential areas. as you rightly pointed out, reports being described by the saudis as collateral damage in the same press conference. the brigadier general alluded to the fact that there have been fires or fire through residential areas. the saudi-led coalition in the air. to that end, we are hearing reports

let's bring in cnn's becky anderson who has been he is summit.inister of yemen is at these summits. is he playing a role what happens incomes? >> reporter: quite a significant role. he has left here and now he is back in riyadh. he traveled back with the saudi king. as the saudi-led defensive from the air continues to grind down the houthis on the ground there is a chance that tens of thousands of arab boots on the ground could now be deployed within days, as you say, to further degrade the iran-backed militia. i've got in my hand here a draft summary of the communicator that was tlashhrashed out and lays o plans for an arab military force. this is the counter region -- in the future and always on the agenda here at the arab summit but this includes wording that speaks specifically to what is going on in yemen. it is expected to be officially ratified within the next hour or so and it officially endorses military action led by the saudis and as you rightly point out, urges houthis to immediately withdrawal from the capital sanaa and surrender the

>> that's exactly right, becky. the fed can accomplish two goals. the first one is pretty much done, the word "patient" will come out the statement. the fed wants to convey to the market that if necessary, they can be patient later on this year. so how do they do it? we think one way they'll do it is to switch the structure of the first paragraph of the statement. they'll reprioritize what near term and medium term policy goals respect for example, since 2008 the first paragraph has always read employment first, business and consumer spending second and inflation goals third. today, they may switch them and make inflation the first policy goal employment second and fixed business and household spending the third goal. >> john, great to see you today. read your notes every morning really appreciate it. >> thanks becky. >> we'll wrap up the show after the break. i'm becky quick with joe kernen and andrew ross sorkin. trying to make sense of what the fed has done. a rate hike could come as early as early june but they also slashed interest rate projections over the next few years and cut the outlook for the economy. >> after the initial increase in the target funds rate our policy is likely to remain highly accommodative to support continued progress toward our objectives of maximum employment and 2% inflation. >> feds funds futures indicating the shift in a probability of a rate hike from september to october. that's part of what caused them in the fed's statement and on yellen's comments. check out the futures this morning. 227 points for the dow. now down by about 25 points for the dow futures but up 5 points for the nasdaq and down by .57. the big story is the dollar. the dollar got slammed on this news but the euro surging past 110 at one point. it was the currency's biggest move since march of 2009. of course you have to keep this all in mind looking at the dollar verses the euro in recent mo

i'm becky along with joe. andrew is joining some time off. we're listening to taylor swift because she was the win every last night. she took home a number of titles including artist of the year best lyrics for "blank space." we've been watching the futures and they're pointing to a positive open. a gain of 122 points where you look where it would be expected to open this morning. s&p futures look like they're indicated up by close to 13 points. and the nasdaq up by 40. probably good news after the lousy week last week for equity markets. there are two trading days left in the first quarter. at this point here is how things stand. the s&p and dow both down more than 2% in march. as for the full quarter, the dow is down 0.6%. it is a short but busy week. the always important jobs report is due on friday morning and even though the markets will be closed we'll be here on "squawk box," at least joe will bringing you the numbers for the jobs report. we'll also be getting personal income and spending at 8:30 a.m. eastern time today and spending ho

i'm becky quick with joe kernen. andrew is off today. we have lots and lots of talk about because we haven't seen you in quite a while. before we get to that, let's look at the futures this morning. at this point, things have turned around for the dow. it was down by about 55 points at the low levels this morning. the s&p futures are relatively flat and the nasdaq is too. this is coming after some ups and downs last week but ending things on a strong note on friday. in europe right now in some of the early trading, you can see there's still weakness when it comes to the cac in france. the dax in germany down 1%. and in greece that market up by just over 2%. >>> here's what's happening right now. goldman sachs sees no bubble trouble for risky assets like stocks. at least not yet. but the firm's chief global equity strategist says the chance is there because rates near zero have pushed many investors up the risk curve. >>> in energy news saudi arabia said it will not unilaterally cut output to defend prices. the minister pledging the kingd
