and it's heading up towards the bel air region right now, in the process of crossing 83. shower and thunderstorm activity. extremely heavy rain, gusty winds. a lot of lightning. we've had over 2,065 lightning strikes just ñrin the past 30 minutes as it makes its way towards the north and east. now let's talk about hurricane bill. hurricane bill has intensified. it's now 110 miles an hour storm. 1,959 miles east-southeast of miami, will track towards the north and east, and it should not impact the continental 9ñ it is however, going to cause some rough surf along the carolinas. it does not look like it's going to impact our weather. we'll keep our fingers crossed, and hopefully bill will stay out into the atlantic as the national hurricane center thinks it's going to be. lots of heat gave rise to the shower and thunderstorm activity that you see building up right there, and just explode once it got over the top of the baltimore area. once the patch gets by, we'll have a little break in the action, but still a few more scattered showers to the west. again, take a look at t

they've moved from the ocean city region, just clouds left over. 72 here and 23469 bell -- 69 in bel air and d.c. at 73. a little nice wind around the sound and so comfortable, a perfect day and a perfect way to start school. and the clouds moved to the south and south east and we had broken clouds and you can see, a few to the west of us. that's clearing up nicely and we'll have mostly sunny skies. a front down to the south and low pressure moving to the carolina coast and that's moving away from the region, we can see showers in south east virginia and they're beginning to move to the east. and north and west, clearing conditions and high pressure building in and pleasant temperatures and cooler nights and sunny days. by the end of the week, as this moves off, we'll have a bit of a return flow, warmer and maybe a few more clouds. right nower we al stay rain free, it's looking like. i'm not guaranteeing that though. north east winds at 10 to 15 knots and the bay temperature at 79 degrees. tonight, clouds from time to time and otherwise, clear and sun and clouds, upper 70s, normal high t

bel air. feels like 93 in chestertown on the eastern shore. as far as what we're seeing rain-wise, nothing in our regionthing in the central portion of the state out west on the western side of the mountains. they are seeing heavy downpours and thunderstorms. that will pass on up into pennsylvania. this afternoon that will start up as soon as the daytime heating kicks in. we'll be in the 80s with thunderstorms around this evening. some of the thunderstorms could have heavy downpours. so be aware of that and be cautious of that tapering off to shower activity for us tonight. over to you. >>> sunday, the fourth annual aflac iron girl columbia triathlon will take place. this event has been sold out since spring. are you surprised to see so many iron girls today? >> i think it's great. everybody wants to participate. >> everybody wants to get out. you have to bike, run, swim. >> swim, bike, run. all in that order. >> swim, how long? >> the swim is just about 1,000 meters. >> bike? >> a little over 18 miles. >> run? >> 3.4 miles. >> how many do you have coming? off the top of your head? >> i think 2,000. >>

region. look at the temperatures. when is the last time we've seen 55 in western maryland? 69 in columbia, 64 in westminster, and six in bel- air. and across the state, the temperatures are reflecting a bit of a drying out and cool down behind the cold front that is clearing things out. all that moisture that we had yesterday and the showers that rolled through here yesterday evening was the result of that cold front. and things are starting to dry out. this is the front extending pretty much from new england back down to the gulf state. danny well up and out of here. not showing up on the radar now. this is the remenant of danny. it was downgraded yesterday at 5:00 a.m. to a tropical depression and it turned into a bunch of thunderstorms. this is what we're dealing with over the next few days. high pressure building in on this edge. temperatures cool down around this high. we are going to seat northwest, westerly flow moving across the street region. tomorrow we'll have a chance of showers as the front is still close enough that south of the metro area and maybe ocean city and southern maryland and packs river, you could see s

region from about 59 in oakland to 64 in cumberland. 77 down on the shore. area wide around the metro area, 67 in westminster. 70 in d.c. 73 on kent island. 69 in bel air. with the wind coming in from the west, we're seeing a shift and feeling a difference in the air. no longer do we have the west southwesterly wind that brought us all of the hot air. we're seeing a west northwesterly wind bringing us cooler conditions, less humidity. as we move in through the week. and that's going to dry us out very nicely. going to be comfortable. high pressure that really is responsible for all of the clear conditions except for just a few showers moving across virginia and west virginia. start to fizzle out. you see how they're hitting the drier air and disappearing. that's what we're in for for the majority of this week. this high is going to stay with us right on through the week with not a chance of rain friday into saturday. we have a five-day forecast that looks pretty nice. bill, really after the last update is still going to be moving away, brushing newfoundland up into canada. just seeing some rain in the cape, up to martha's vineyard, we just talked about
