european union have one thing we absolutely all want to do and that is to uphold the good friday, the belfastre we keep the balance of the peace process going. that is absolutely common ground and i am optimistic we can do it. what is really interesting is if you look at the last bit about the atlantic charter we were talking about a minute ago, there were two clauses about northern ireland and they talk about the signatories to the good friday agreement and they talk... the uk and ireland, and they talk about the uk and the united states working together to help northern ireland promote peace. there was no mention of the eu, who are not a signatory to the good friday agreement. and so i wonder if downing street will be happy with that tonight because there was no kind of strong arming by the us to say sign up to what the eu interprets the protocol to mean. i think number 10 will be quite pleased with that. although chatting to the eu people here at this summit, because, remember, there will be loads of eu leaders and presidents of eu institutions, their theory is that it would get borisjohns
