cbs2's ali bowman joins us live from belmar. >> reporter: belmar police have had the property here blocked off all morning. take a look at the damage here. you can see the structure just burned through the front porch barely recognizable. now the mayor of belmar comi at 212 is thisth avenue. source -- 14th avenue, sources say that was father and son but we don't have the ages yet. the mayor says this is a -- this house is a year-round rental and the fire started at around 99:30 last night and it took crews from five different fire departments to finally put it out. now we don't yet know the cause but flames slatrd you this -- shatrd through windows and left the walls inside charred. now there does appear to be some damage to the home sitting coming out of the window from the second story there today. now we don't yet know the names of the two victims that died but we'll continue to follow this story throughout the morning. we're live in belmar, ali bowman, cbs2 news. >>> all right thank you. happening today, a court appearance in westchester for a bronx man facing kidnapping and weapons ch

this happened on 14th avenue in belmar. police department still there on the scene right now as is "today in new york's" tracie strahan. >> reporter: michael, you can still smell the smoke from this fire hours after it happened. as you mentioned, police still guarding this ohm on the 200 block of 14th avenue. take a look at this destruction. from front to back. this home completely burned. burned from top to bottom. all of this happening around 9:30 last night. let's show you the massive emergency response that came here to try and battle flames that broke out, last night. mayor dougherty from belmar actually says that two men were killed here. he says units from belmar were assist fd from avon, spring lake, wall and neptune. he called all of the firefighters heroes. it took about two hours to get the flames under control. in addition to the two fatalities, there are reports that a dog was killed here as well. as we bring you back live, the cause of the fire, of course, under investigation. county sheriffs department, the f

. >> the fire broke out on 14th avenue in belmar. eyewitness news reporter just spoke with neighbors. she is live with an update. a.j., good morning. >> michelle, neighbors here on 14th avenue waking up with heavy hearts after two men now left behind me. this was an intense and fast moving blaze that remains under investigation. now take a look at this video sent to us by a viewer. according to investigators, the fire broke out around 9:45 last night and flames quickly spread throughout the home. several fire departments, including belmar, spring lake, wall, and neptune responded to the blaze. unfortunately, two men inside were not able to escape in time. firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from what sparked this deadly fire remains under investigation. a lot of homes are rentals, it's hard to get to know people well, but their thoughts remain with the families who lost loved ones. >> it's sad, it's regrettable. things don't happen here like that, and sorry to hear. that's it. >> again, back here live, you can just see the ch

belmar, we're in the mid 80s. across the northeast, we can see more comfortable temperatures sitting off to the north and west like in albany where it's 81. we're in the upper 70s in pittsburgh and towards detroit but hot in philly and d.c. are temperatures are in the 90s. we'll see this move into the region tomorrow. we had a bit of a break. a cold front swept through the area yesterday. that helped bring in some drier, relatively drier air across the region. it wasn't as steamy as over the weekend. we have a bit of instability sitting towards the southwest. that will pass through the area tonight. there could be the chance of a couple of showers, but most of we have a bigger system that's sitting off to the west. there's an area of low pressure that will make its way eastward. tomorrow, this is going to spark off afternoon showers and storms. some of those could be strong to severe mostly north and west of new york city. it will be a hot and humid day tomorrow. we're going for highs in the 90s in many locations

firefighters from belmar and two other towns responded to 14th street in belmar after 9:45 last night. the fire was so intense it kept them from getting inside and saving the victims. officials say the extreme heat outside also kept re-igniting the flames. >> the fire department got here house was fully engulfed. you can see it how charred it is now. there were flames coming out of every window. so when they got here, they did their best to put it out and get inside. without a doubt, it was far too late. >> the identities of the victims were not released. an autopsy will determine the cause of death. >>> traffic is moving again right now after an overnight tractor-trailer fire on the new sent to us from linden. that video shows flames shooting out of the truck shortly after 3:00 a.m. fortunately, the driver was able to get out safely. no word on what caused the fire and there were no reports of injuries. >>> friends and family are saying good-bye to a new york woman murdered in massachusetts. the funeral for vanessa marcot was held this morning. her body was found august 7th near wood
