we actually have a big accident on the beltway in alexandria. i'll get to that in a minute. i want to let you know the plans with snow crews first. vdot has their full force out, 4,000 trucks. they will work through the night to make sure the shoulders are cleared, same story with mdot. vdot, mdot both take care of 17,000 lane miles. vdot is northern virginia i'm talking about and mdot 17,000 lane miles in the state plus 44 miles of the beltway. ddot will have 300 trucks out and again they're mainly working. they always focus on those bridges, ramps and overpasses. metro remains on normal schedule. they expect to be that way tomorrow, but canceled today was marked. their decision tonight will be for the a.m. commute. metrobus probably will be restored tomorrow but on a limited service. there may be closed roads or icy they can't reach. d.c.'s circulator bus is canceled tomorrow and d.c. is still under the snow emergency plan. no parking in lanes with red and white signs. if you are parked there tonight, $250 fine plus towing and if you're towed, there's the number to call. l

you can see the 6 to 8-inch band includes the entire beltway. that is a significant shift.he 8 to 12-inch band is still pretty much intact covering southern maryland and down into culpeper, orange, stafford and spotsylvania counties in virginia, but 6 to 8 inches likely up into southern loudoun county towards leesburg not quite into gaithersburg and not quite into leesburg as well, but we will see that 6 to 8 inches in the beltway itself. so that is a significant change for you. on our doppler 9000 you can see moisture continuing to stream from the west. we'll see that arctic front drop down as well dropping those snowfalls down into the beltway heading into the overnight hours. we're already starting to see a changeover in silver spring up rdtowa laurel, rockville picking up snow on our radar data, tysons possibly changing to a wintery mix as of now, but snow falling throughout frederick county into portions of carroll and howard counties as well, northern loudoun county completely snow right now, but the heaviest of the snow is yet to come. for more on our forecast i'm go

peter barnes inside the beltway with more. peter? >> that's right, david.lies europe about a third of its natural gas mostly by pipelines that run through the ukraine. vladmir putin cut off supplies before in disputes with ukraine as you recall. the push to export our natural gas is gaining more traction for geopolitical reasons, not just economic reasons, to reduce russia's leverage over many of our key allies. the push comes as the u.s. is experiencing natural gas boom, thanks to fracking. the u.s. is now the world's biggest natural gas producer, topping russia. but critics say the energy department has been dragging its feet. approving applications to export liquid natural gas. the process takes about 2 to 3 years. it has approved about 6, as approved six applications so far and has 24 more applications pending. here are three of the public companies that have applied and want to get into this business. house speaker john boehner said that the president shut use his pen and phone to get the energy department to accelerate its reviews. the there is also b

i do read it as our beltway press and beltway politicos, they are looking at this race for ratings to raise money, for any number of things. what we can say about this race though is although it doesn't bode well maybe for 2014, we are talking about a special within a special, and those are driven by turnout numbers on the daily -- on the day of the election and less driven by issues so when you have specials within specials those people tend all the time, vote like shock troops. gop, older white voters who show up even if it's a special election for dog catcher. those are the people who are going to decide elections. who doesn't vote are those people who are least likely. they show up maybe during a presidential on year, almost never in a mid-term and never ever during a special election like this. what democrats have to do is change that behavior over time. they have to show that every election matters, that these issues matter and that who they send to office, who is going to be voting, going to be voting for or against your interests, and so we have to show that every election is
