>> all right, that was ben crump, the martin family attorney. obviously these are two separate things, martin, but it does have -- there is a possibility, fk o, this could impact the case. how do you think this news of the suspension will affect the case and affect the tone of this big town hall meeting that's going to hapn tonight? >> well, you know, that's a very difficult judgment to kind of make. i think that in many ways people are going to look at this as possible character assassination on the part of someone lashing out now at the memory of a young man who was unable to defend himself. so i think it is likely to add perhaps to the sense of anger. we already know that there were great concerns on the part of the community here. this is the civic center here. it only holds about 500 people, or at least that's the limit they're going to place tonight. so there were great concerns with so many people coming that would add to the anger. but they set up some television sets in a nearby park. so everyone should be able to see. emotions were alr

but ben crump, the lawyer for martin's parent're parents, says the video shows a murderer. >> look at that video. do you see any blood on his head? head? he said he broke his nose. look at that video and look at how easy he walks out of the car. >> reporter: zimmerman air, crime watch volunteer, thought martin looked suspicious, called police, and followed martin along this street along this street and around this r.is corner. robert zimmerman, the gunman's father, told wfol tv in orlando that martin suddenly confront his son. >> at that point, he was punched in the nose. his nose was broken, and he was knocked to the concrete. trayvon martin got on top of him and just started beating him in the face, in his nose, hitting his head on the concrete. >> reporter: police reports noted zimmerman was bleeding from the nose and the back of the head. but a closer look at zimmerman shows no obvious head or face injuries. at one point, an officer does check the back of his head. martin's family contend this vi video proves police never wanted to arrest zimmerman. >> yes, that's detective serino

i'm actually friends with their attorneys ben crump and darryl parks. they're wonderful lawyers representing them. what my -- i have no legal role as attorney general in the state of florida. that authority is left to the state attorneys. but what i did do is i discussed with the governor the appointment of angela corey, a special prosecutor in jacksonville who's well removed from the case. she's excellent. and the florida department ask now in the case. the reason i can't comment on stand your ground whether that applies here because there are too many unanswered questions. and, you know, that's why the family is rightfully upset. when you have an incident 17-year-old boy walking home with skittles and an iced tea and he's killed, you have to have answers, not questions. and that's what we need in our state. >> look, i am encouraged by what you're saying. it's good that a senior lawmaker in florida is saying all this, but in the end, i remain like many people absolutely bemused that somebody could shoot somebody in cold blood, an unarmed teenager. i th

. >> ben crump, this could be a huge development if the source is correct. i mean, isn't this very unusual for the lead state attorney to come, himself, and meet with the head of the police and the head investigator the night of a murder? of a killing? >> reverend sharpton, it suggests to us what we've said all along. for whatever reasons, the police department and people at the top made a decision to say that we're going to assist george zimmerman in his self-defense claim. and it's so telling that the lead investigator did not believe what george zimmerman was saying. when you add up these facts, it just doesn't seem to make sense. when you listen to the 911 tape from zimmerman, himself, and the phone records from trayvon's girlfriend, you know, you have him on that 911 call saying he's running. and you have that young lady on the phone saying he's following me. it's one of those things that that makes sense, that zimmerman pursued and stopped trayvon and he was the aggressive. now, why the state attorney was saying this is not enough makes absolutely no s

director -- >> so you listened briefly to as the mother sabrina fulton, trayvon's father, tracy martin, ben crumpe attorney here. what this is, it looks looic a packed house here. this was called -- this was a round table, so it was called upon by one of the congressmen. it involves profiling and hate krieps as well. as we continue to watch this, if i still have martin savidge standing by, still all kinds of questions here. we now know the fbi, martin has these 911 tapes. the department of justice investigating. an attorney now assigned by the governor from the state of florida rick scott look into this. we followed that. i want to go back to the original stanford police report. what more are we gleaning from that night? >> not much, other than the report that was leaked to the newspaper yesterday where we understand that there was an altercation. and according to that report, which has been verified from the sanford police, in other words, that the information is accurate, it portrays trayvon martin as the aggressor here. george zimmerman said stray von came up to him, punched him in the face, k

. >> the family attorney ben crump calling the story a distraction. >> if he and his friends experimented with marijuana, that is still completely irrelevant to george zimmerman killing their son. >> also today the orlando sentinel reported and the sanford police later confirmed a leaked account of zimmerman's account. he said he lost sight of trayvon martin and returned to his suv when martin confronted him. he punched zimmerman in the nose knocking him down. he said he hit him repeatedly and slammed his head into the ground. additionally abc news is reporting that zimmerman reported that martin tried to take his gun. there is an affidavit from a young woman who said she was on the phone with trayvon martin before she was shot. he indicated zimmerman was following him. today, though, another apparent witness emerged. the first to say there was a scuffle between the two. he spoke to fox 35. >> the guy on the bottom who i believe had a red sweater on was yelling to me help, help. i told him to stop and i was calling 911. >> it was george zimmerman who was wearing red. this is the first eye

. >> ben crump, sabrina fulton, tracy martin, thank you for your time tonight. sorry for your loss. >> thank you. >> let's talk legally what bearing the past could have on the case. areva, you're outraged by the leak of trayvon martin's school records, why? >> you know, anderson, when i first heard of it it was last night. it just made my blood boil. because we're talking about a minor. we're talking about records protected by both federal and state law. to get someone's school records, typically there has to be written consent from the parents. some would argue that your rights to price might die when the person dies. but in this case in particular, the sensitive information and there's precedence in other cases where information that is sensitive as this, as personal as this, there's an effort to protect that information and not disclose it. we don't know when these records were sought by police. but we do know they've been leaked in order to -- we can't imagine anything was intended by those records except to malign this young man's character and to now paint

martin's father tracy and mother sabrina fulton are with us now exclusively, along with their attorney ben crump. good morning to all of you naup for joining us. i appreciate it. this phone call that was carried on between trayvon and this young lady, just before he was shot, the young lady says that she heard him saying why are you following me. says perhaps he then put his hoodie up on his sweatshirt and heard someone else saying what are you doing in this neighborhood, and then the phone went dead. what do you think this phone call proves? >> to me it proves that he wasn't walking around the neighborhood, doing anything suspicious. he was on his way home. he had every right to have on his hoodie. it was raining. why not put on his hoodie to prevent getting wet? >> this is not a recorded phone call, mrs. fulton. the young lady -- the police in sanford asked anyone with information to come forward if they had that. this young lady, according to our reporting, had not come forward. and we're now getting her version of this phone call. can it be trusted? >> yes, it can. she was distraught because

>> i think the feelings i've got from the parents and able attorney ben crump, they think it's a stepion that the justice department has come in and there is a special prosecutor, the governor came down and met thursday before the big rally that we had. but that until zimmerman is arrested, they really don't see this moving in a firm way. there clearly was probable cause to arrest him. there is clearly some forces in the sanford police department that seems to be not abiding by what is lawful, and there is conflicting reports, even in the police reports. you have the officer at the scene saying i never talked to zimmerman. the police chief saying zimmerman said this. all kinds of discrepancies, so when we met with the justice department and the u.s. attorney, we not only raised the question of a hate crime for zimmerman, but we also said there must be an investigation of how the police handled this case. >> some reviewers say why doesn't the justice department go and arrest zimmerman. the federal government can't just go in under all circumstances, right? i want to play a bit of audio

>> we met with the family and the attorney ben crump and the justice department here last week the dayers are in this now. the police department closed their investigation and now have given it to the state prosecutor. the state prosecutor has now given it to a special prosecutor who will be meeting with the family today. i can tell you that the position that has been raised by the family is all you need to do is go to the 911 tapes and hear what was said. zimmerman said on the tape that i am following him. he was asked, are you following him? yes. they said we don't need to you do that. he said ok and he followed him anyway. there will be all kinds of people that will come out and say different things that should be said in a court of law. the probable cause is in the 911 tape. he pursued him despite the fact he was told not to. that is enough for zimmerman to not be able to use self defense. you can't follow somebody and pursue somebody even when you're told not to and then say you're defending yourself. just like in sports, willie, go to the tape. the tape says it all. and let's the
