ben jones is joining us now at investech. ben, during the press conference, investors seem to be going back and forth of what to make for the decision of 50 basis points a lot of investors were critical of the decision. how can you go with the relatively jumbo rate hike with the turmoil in the banking sector and uncertainty and yet after the press conference, equities rallied into the close. now this morning, equities continue to rally. was it the right move and what is your read on how markets are reacting >> good morning. after the week we had, it is one we will see green across the screens on st. patrick's day obviously the market has taken the news from the ecb positively i think the way the market is interpreting it is a sign of confidence if we think about the banking sector, it is all about confidence it is all about trust. i think what the ecb said yesterday is inflation is still very much a core problem and we still need to get rates higher they moved with the 50 basis point hike it is interesting in the comments afte

now from cnn geopolitical correspondent, sunday state of the union, -- to political commentators, ben jones, a former special adviser to obama, and david orban, of former trump adviser and republican strategist. dana, starting with, you would you make of the fact that there are still so many unknowns at this point regarding such an extremely consequential moment in american politics? >> the da is working very -- holding his cards close to his vest. but that's an important point you just made. it's an unknown. the words that you used at the beginning of the program, talking about the fact that the former president is saying -- and his attorneys are saying, we just are repeating but we heard in the press. it's a little bit of a, you know, they're doing this intentionally, the trump team. because the former president understands -- in the words of one of his -- somebody in his orbit today, to me said, he was on political life support. talking about politics now, not the potential legal trouble he's an. politics. he was on life support and this whole situation has been a political infusion for

jones went from $63 to $381. and these all indices of the great thing and and people say well ben, what happened? well, in fact, i actually did a calculation. if you had bought stock at hundred and $81 a share or if he'd bought into the dow at that time. and if you just on until today, you would have compounded your money at about 5% a year. so it wasn't a disaster. truthfully high might not be great. i wouldn't want to invest money quite at that rate, but it wasn't quite the disaster. finally, let me just finish on this point. as i said earlier, one of the great myths, my opinion about the twenties is that it led, you know, more or less directly, maybe indirectly to the great depression. and i hope by the time we're finished this panel, sometime in the next 60 minutes, we will be able to disabuse everyone in this room of that idea and show exactly what did contribute to the great depression and why the stock market crash in 29 wasn't merely a correction, which we've had a lot, but the prelude to a great depression. it wasn't the stock markets that caused it. and i won't give you any more hints,
