i want to thank also ben rosenfield's office, harvey and severin of b.l.a. and jon givner deputy city attorney and kelly kirkpatrick, and congratulations kelly kirkpatrick to your new assignment. i want to really thank all of you as a team, you worked really well with the budget committee. a few things i appreciated that we were able to support even further than the budget presented to us are things around food security. we did real well on that. we did real well in trying to get more services for seniors. such lacking. even with the dignity fund that president cohen lead in that proposition, even though we won that, it's just not enough. i want to thank all my colleagues to understand even though we had prop-c education initiative passing, this understanding it might not kick in real quickly and that we needed some gap funding to make sure we don't leave existing infants and toddlers in service be left out of the loop. so thank you for your $2 million for early education e.c.e. piece that was added back. i want to thank my colleagues on the budget committee

ben rosenfield. through the supervisor yee, no, this basically takes 1.5% of our current 14% hotel tax and converts it to a dedicated tax. then that growth within that 1.5% remains within that 1.5%, under lying the remainder of the -- would remain in the general hotel fund, and the portion of that tax would continue to feed the other baselines. co-sponsor, supervisor peskin and sonny angulo, who is here, director of arts affairs, rebecca krell, ben rosenfield, my staff, and, of course, the dozens and dozens of arts and cultural organizations that were part of this huge effort. for many years, as many of you may or may not know, we had hotel tax revenues that were -- that we had as a city dedicated to arts and cultural funding. however, more recently, we were told that we needed to actually go back before voters to secure a voter approval in order to dedicate funds specifically for the arts and cultural organizations. and so what we have before us today is something that we hope to submit to voters in november to do just that. but also, even more. this ordinance would subject 1.5% of the hotel tax revenues to specific arts and cultural purposes. in a nutshell, i wanted to share the categories. they include for nonprofit cultural organizations in the city. for arts commission, for programs that move san francisco arts funding toward cultural equity. for supporting the operation, maintenance and programming of city-owned community and cultura
