ben venue avenue in berkeley. that is where "today in the bay's" christy smith joins us with an update on the massive fire. >> reporter: i just got an update from the deputy fire chief. he says the good news is the fire is out. right now, he says it's out, they're just making sure basically nothing flares up this morning. that's why they still have their ladder truck here. when they arrived, flames were racing through the back of this home. two serious concerns right away, making sure of course that everyone was out, but also the integrity of the building itself. there was a partial collapse of the roof and the second floor. this fire started around 12:19 in a duplex here on benevenue. it is a dupe plex but i'm told only one family lives here. firefighters had to fight the flames from the outside with water and houses from their water truck. the houses here very close together. that meant that neighbors had to evacuate too. >> the fire was threatening adjacent structures. we also had a rescue that was in progress in which berkeley police officers helped remove a woman who was in a wheelchair. there are four other occu
