ben tracy is there. ben. >> reporter: norah, this is the calm between our two storms, and here in azusa, california, this neighborhood is now under judge the fear is when it starts pouring the hild side will turn into a muddy river. the first storm moved through faster than expected, dropping less than an inch of rain on southern california. that gave the folks who live here time to prepare for round two, which could deliver up to six inches of rain in some places. in azusa, police went door to door, telling people to evacuate. mudslides threatened about 1,000 homes here. wildfires scorched 2,000 acres of hillsides last month, burning the vegetation that keeps the hills from sliding. matt albanese is building barriers to keep the mud out. >> we install these footings that go down three feet with three-inch steel pipe. and so that that was done yesterday. today is actually building the fencing. >> we're going to get more rain in the next 48 hours than we've seen in the past two years. >> reporter: bill pa

ben tracy is in glendora, east of l.a., where hundreds of people are already under threat. ben, good morning. >> reporter: anthony and norah, good morning. it is a wet morning here in glendora, california. this is one of those neighborhoods that's under mandatory evacuation. they've put up concrete barriers, hoping that any water and mud that comes off the hillsides back here will rush down the street and stay away from the homes. they've also given out 30,000 sandbags, preparing for up to 6 inches of rain. the wet weather began moving into southern california overnight, threatening to unleash the heaviest rain the region has seen in three years. it's the second time in days the area's getting hit. slick roads made for dangerous driving conditions wednesday night, but this latest storm is expected to pack more of a punch, dumping up to an inch of rain per hour. >> after 8:00 p.m. we can't come back up. >> reporter: thursday officials evacuated 1,000 homes in glendora and asurza amid fears of flooding and mud slides. both are nestled in hillsides scorched in a recent wildfire
