ben tracy is following that part of the story in singapore. good morning. a lot of anticipation for this summit is you have these two very unpredictable world leaders sitting down face to face. you see kim jong-un in the eyes of the world go through a big transformation, from something of a madman to something of a statesman. that kind of diplomatic pivot does require explaining back in north korea. for decades, the u.s. has been seen there as north korea's biggest threat. earlier state media in north korea explained the summit is the result of what they're calling changing times. it said a new relationship with the u.s. comes from the desire to build a permanent peacekeeping mechanism and event denuclearization of the korean peninsula. it also noted the talks are taking place under the great attention of the whole world. here in singapore that attention is evident. restaurants and businesses are cashing in. you can find summit-themed decisions, trump and kim t-shirts and a pair of impersonators holding mock press conferences. singapore said i

ben tracy is in singapore, looking ahead to the much anticipated meeting there. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. so we just arrived here in singapore a couple of hours ago. there's definitely a buzz in the air about this upcoming summit. it's unclear if people are more excited about the idea of perhaps catching a glimpse of trump or kim jong-un. these two leaders have a big gap to close in the negotiations. president trump continues to say that his goal is to get north korea to agree to complete denuclearization and also a quick time line for making that happen. but kim jong un, has only said he's willing to talk about it and has made no firm promises for what he wants in return for giving up his weapons. president trump stated if north korea does not agree to denuke, then the harsh sanctions on the regime will remain in place. he warned if the meeting here on tuesday is not going well, he will simply walk out of it. the president continued to predict he thinks this will be a successful summit here in singapore. he says if he and kim jong-un hit it off, h
