ben tracy has just arrivaled in the capital and has more on the story. ben, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. negotiations with north korea to give up its nuclear weapons have not been going well, but north korean state media did say today that kim jong-un is still committed to denuclearization. now, on wednesday, kim met with envoys from south korea. according to the south koreans, he said that despite difficult negotiations, he still has faith in president trump and has never spoken ill of him. kim says he wants to end his country's hostile relationship with the u.s. by the end of the president's first term. now, at their summit in singapore in june, president trump and kim jong-un announced a vague agreement to work toward denuclearization but so far north korea has not even revealed how many nuclear weapons it has or where they are. now, here in pyongyang this week, north korea is planning to stage a major military parade to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of this country. despite once again showing off his weapons, kim j

ben tracy returned from north korea and is tracking this summit from beijing. ben, good morning. >> good morning. so these two leaders agreed to quite a bit. the big question now is how much of it will actually happen. and will the u.s. go along with it. now in this latest declaration, north korea agrees to permanently shutter its main missile engine testing site and its launch pad. this is where the north has tested several intercontinental ballistic miss manies. what's significant is that kim jong un said he will allow outside experts to verify that north korea has dismantled it. the north says it's willing to shutter its main nuclear facilities, but only if the united states makes some unspecified reciprocal action. north korea has made it clear it will not unilaterally denuclearize. we were in north korea as the regime marked the anniversary of north korea's founding, they did not parade their missiles or even mention nuclear weapons at any of their events. but despite what north korea is doing and saying publicly, satellite imagery and reports from the u.n.

ben tracy has our report from pyongyang. >> reporter: nobody throws a military parade like north korea and this one certainly did not disappoint. more than 100,000 people crammed into the main square in the nation's capital they paid homage to their leader kim jong-un. there were battalions of soldiers. north korea definitely showed off its military hardware, but what's most notable is what was not in this parade. they did not parade their ballistic missiles as it has done in other parades. that could be a sign that kim jong-un is serious about dedenuclearization and he wants to negotiate with president trump. just this past week, kim jong-un said he had absolute faith in president trump and the president said the two of them will work on the issue of denuclearization together. now while we have been here in the country, we have noticed a change in attitude. a lot of the anti-american propaganda you once saw around is now gone. it's replaced with messages about the economy. kim jong-un has made the strategic shift to boost the north korean economy and that's what he wants his people to
