ben wedeman has this update from italy. >> reporter: i am ben wedeman in rome. more than 1 million cases of coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic earlier this year. more than 600,000 of those cases are currently active. the second wave of the pandemic shows no sign of slowing down, despite ever stricter measures to try to stop the spread. an overnight nationwide curfew is already in place. five regions are under lockdown in other regions of italy, perhaps the country may soon follow suit. italian hospitals are finding it ever more difficult to handle the flood of new patients. some hospitals are running out of beds and staff to treat the sick. wednesday, the daily death toll from coronavirus, 623, was the highest daily death toll in more than seven months. officials here warn that as bad as things are now, the worst is yet to come. >> ben wedeman in rome. despite all of the advice to the contrary, a lot of people planning to travel over the thanksgiving holiday coming up. some airlines are adding flights to meet increased holiday demand. taz shows trave
