ben wedeman is in beirut. ben. you've been witness to so many strikes over these last several days, including that strike that killed nasrallah on friday. tell us about these most recent strikes and what we know about the likely targets been fewer strikes today than we've seen over the last few days, but what we heard from his butler was they acknowledged the deaths of two of their senior commanders, one, ali ali karki, who was responsible for the southern front. he was killed in that strike strike at 6:00 p.m. on friday that also killed hassan nasrallah. the hezbollah also came out and acknowledged in another one of their commanders was killed by the name of name of nobilo coke who was responsible for preventative security. also, a somebody very close two, hassan nasrallah. so at this point, it does appear that there are very few, if any, of his butler's senior leaders, at least on the military side who are actually still alive, although his hezbollah insist that they do have those who can take their place. but cl

cnn's ben wedeman is in beirut. ben, what are you learning hearing from the state news agency it at least three people were killed in a town in the beqaa valley to the east of here. >> and also security sources are telling cnn that these walkie talkies, essentially, even though there have been described in the arabic media as wireless devices, 15 to 20 explosions occurred in the southern suburb fruits of beirut. and that of course is an area where hezbollah has a large presence. in addition to 15 to 20 explosions in very arid various areas of southern lebanon. now, the security sources say that the extent of the explosions today are much less obviously then what? but we saw yesterday when according to the ministry of health here, as many as 10,800 people were killed, as many as almost a dozen i mean were wounded in addition to at least are almost a dozen people killed in yesterday's blast. so we're outside the american university beirut medical center, which yesterday treated as many as 200 people who were injured in

let's get right to cnn's jim sciutto in tel aviv and ben wedeman in lebanon's capital of beirut. ben, let's start with you. what are you seeing and hearing? >> yeah. within the last 45 minutes or so, we've seen a series of israeli airstrikes on the suburb southern suburbs of beirut. one, a pr aqil early are large one, perhaps a kilometer, a kilometer and a half south of beirut international airport. we're hearing from the ministry of how that there are already fatalities from those strikes. and what's interesting is that about an hour and 40 minutes ago, the arabic spokesman for these rarely he military put out on twitter a warning for three neighborhoods. big neighborhoods in the southern suburbs of beirut without specifying and exactly what about a bit after that? about an hour ago, he put out a second tweet specifying buildings and telling people to get away from those buildings and any buildings around them that would be hit a 20 minutes later the first strike happened. so that's not an awful lot of time if you have people who can't move quickly to get away from some of those

. >> cnn's ben wedeman is in beirut for us. ben, what more do we know about these powerful explosions? >> well we understand briana that there were six buildings in the southern suburbs of beirut. they were utterly flattened by this bombing that took place round 7:00 p.m. local time. now, we there, of course, the israelis have clear saying that the target was it the secretary general of hezbollah, hassan nasrallah. we've heard not a word from the organization itself. neither confirming nor denying whether he was at that location or whether he was killed. what we do know from the lebanese ministry of health is that at least two people were killed, 76 injured. now we're outside the rafik hariri hospital in beirut, where i spoke to a doctor and they have received some of the injured, but he said the numbers are minimal. of course, this is a hospital somewhat away from the bomb site, but we expect the death toll, the number of injured to increase these dramatically given this is a part of beirut that is very densely populated where

ben wedeman's report was interesting, but i'd suggest that hezbollah is not going to be able to conduct many operations he did do a strike as he said, this morning with several missiles longer range missiles and haifa, but i don't think they're going to be able to sustain a whole lot more that kinds of strikes hezbollah has been conducting with 30 to 50 missiles a day coming across the border prior to this, i think we're going to see a slowing of hezbollah's actions, but a continuation of israel's actions. >> and aaron, i do want to get your thoughts on that and also kind of underscoring this point that the president and the administration who said they are concerned about this escalating, and that they are trying to resolve this diplomatically there's also this idea of, on israel's part of escalating to de-escalate. if that is something you think is possible that's certainly a hard thing to get exactly right? >> i think it is. i think mark mark hertling got it right. that in fact, there's a lot of churn in his ball and if you look at their response, it's been tension. you see once shor

now cnn's alex marquardt, cnn has ben wedeman in beirut, and alex, you've been learning about this looming ground incursion into lebanon. the state department just announcing that israel has informed the us about a number of operations. what's the latest number of operations of being shared, assured by the israelis that they will be relatively limited in nature focused on hezbollah infrastructure right across the border inside southern lebanon that they argue that the israelis argue are threatening those northern israeli communities. so this incursion we are told by the administration could come at any moment now do you believe it's eminent this could happen in a matter of hours. this could easily happen today. and this really comes against the biden administration's wishes. you heard the president there saying that he would be comfortable with them stopping these rates. so that really highlights the fact that the biden ministration is either unable or unwilling to prevent israel from carrying out this this incursion into his, into lebanon, which could of course threatened the broader regi

ben wedeman is in beirut. then can you give us a sense of the targets, the range of targets of these israeli airstrikes inside lebanon, both in the south and in and around beirut in the last 24 hours i certainly in and around beirut in the last 24 hours, they've been sporadic to say the least, not the lightened sort of the tempo that we've seen in previous days. >> it appears that the focus of their strikes today was partly the bekaa valley where in one individuals strike they killed 21 people in 47 others as far as the targets go, his butler, northern national news who's agency really go into the details of that. we also saw strikes in the south, one strike outside of sidon in the south killing more than 30 people. but it's sort of the significant news from here today is that hezbollah conceded that two more of their senior leaders there's were killed. one is ali karki, who's was responsible for what hezbollah calls its southern front, the border with israel. and also nobilo koch, who was head of his bullets,
