. >>> joining us now, ben wickler, the chair of wisconsin's democratic party. d to have you here with us. what or where are you going to be watching today to get a sense of that enthusiasm on the ground for the first day of early voting in your state? >> well, thanks for having me on. we'll be watching every part of the state, because we built a state wide infrastructure. we have 50 offices including in dozens of counties that trump won previously. i've been in 18 counties in in the last three days across the state and i can tell you the energy on the ground is huge. we knocked on a million doors in wisconsin since harris has become a nominee and today i'll be at the event later today. so many folks are fired up. the more people that vote early, the more our massive get out the vote operation can focus on those who haven't voted in the final stretch. that's an advantage the republicans don't have. they have a few dozen staffers, they don't have the torrent of absentee ballots flowing in that we see on the democratic side. i'm feeling great this morning. >> you t

joining me now are ben wickler, chair of the democratic party of wisconsin, and atlantic staff writer, mark leibovich. thank you both for being here. mark, i'm going to start with you because you're sitting with me. you were with liz cheney when she came out endorsed kamala harris, so that was a significant piece of news, but i want to start by asking you this does it matter question because you do hear this a lot. do youth think it matters? >> there is this cavalier brush off you hear from republicans, and oh, liz cheney was roundly bootedas out of her party, she lost re-election. you know, there's no constituency for mitt romney, fort liz cheney. first of all, tens of millions of americans voted for dick cheney for president, for mitt romney for president. and there those all of who have been on republican tickets who are not voting for donald trump. listen, the key words here are permission structure. there are tons ofsi republicans out there and independents out who have voted for donald trump in the past, who have voted for many republicans who need that extra push. it is -- you

>> joining us now are the democratic party chairs of wisconsin, ben wickler and congresswoman williamst's start with georgia, what does the get out the vote effort for democrats look like there? >> we know that in battleground georgia where we only won by 11,780 votes, that means between now and november 5th, we have to continue to talk to every single person that we can reach. last night, i wish i could have been there with first lady michelle obama when she was giving these remarks to young people in my district. i was at georgia tech in an auditorium full of young people who were helping us reach other young people to get out the vote. we know that's what it's going to take us. it's going to take us reaching other people. once we cast our early vote, which a lot of people have, because we have shattered every early voting record in our state's history with over 3 million people already voting, but once we vote, then we go and reach other people and bring them to the polls with us. we understand the stakes in this election. it's going to come down to turnout. we know it's going to be

joining us now, the chair of the democratic party of wisconsin ben wickler.sin right now. we had 97,000 early votes in early voting on tuesday. that is triple the midterms. it's more than 2020. the second day of early voting, the number of votes cast was higher than the first day. the energy is palpable. this is a jump ball state. >> let me ask you about that endorsement from the mayor of waukesha, shawn riley who left the republican party on january 6th, 2021, after what he saw at the capitol. it was a bridge too far. voted third party in 2016, president biden in 2020, but said he kept an open mind for 2024, saying he is going to vote for kamala harris. what does that tell you? >> not just that he's going to vote for kamala harris, but he's publicly endorsing it. it's really people sounding the alarm. this is not just something people are thinking about in the quiet of their own hearts. a lot of folks who would have wanted to have not weighed into this whole fight are saying this is go time, that you have to vote and it's time to vote for harris if you want

the chair of the democratic party there ben wickler, great to have you on the show.rris today. how is that going to play out? >> we're so excited in wisconsin, because the vice president and liz cheney are going to rip in wisconsin, the birthplace of the republican party back when the republican party was the anti-slavery party calling for change and more justice. at this point the republican party has drifted so far from its best traditions and spirit. liz cheney has been vocal, telling people they need to defeat trump, to put country over party. today she'll be campaigning, i think, for the first time with kamala harris in wisconsin, the state that tipped the last two presidential elections. it's a state with undecided voters who are conflicted. this is a moment where they can choose patriotism and love of country making a choice for harris, knowing that the water is safe. democrats, independents, this is the time to make a statement about our constitution. >> talk about what amy was talking about just there, which is the ground game. a lot of the us who are grown
