a second book which is also further to my district is "benedict arnold's navy" which, of course, is a famous person from the revolutionary war that it specifically talks about kind of the untold story of some of the battles, the naval battles that happen on lake champlain that led to the use having our victory at the battle of saratoga. again for those who are interested in the founding of our country, i'm so privileged to represent this district but it should be fun read. at the third book which is an older book but it was just recommended to me by the ceo for ticonderoga, is "fort ticonderoga: key to a continent" and it was written by a director of fort ticonderoga in the 1960s. it's going back in the path a little bit but still the preeminent book that provides a history of fort ticonderoga attended my last book which is unrelated to my district but i tried and i'm interested in books of powerful women in the united states history, and i was walking through a bookstore, i saw the autobiography of helen keller, the story of my life. that was published quite a long time ago but when

i co-wrote a biography of benedict arnold's wife and in the book we dealt with a little bit about the militia and how you could not order them around like the regular soldiers. arnold's aid tells the militia to get a barber and it caused a problem. >> guest: this is part of the mythic narrative we tend to learn, if we learn anything at all, about the school book story. that was certainly true at lexington and concord in april of 1975. it wasn't true for the most of the rest of the war. george washington feared relying on a militia and wrote to the congress to rely on the militia is like relying on the staff. i am sure people say what is an army. they were specifically the men who were responsible to the men of their state. every colony before the revolution had to provide a militia and in the south they had a very specific duty, which was to suppress slave rebellions. part of the story we don't talk about and one i talk about in this book. what washington discovered was these militia men were enrolled nine months, three months and six months. and this is why in 1776 an essay called th
