benioff was at the conference just appeared cory: emily: benioff were at the same ceo summit earlier this week. brent: a lot of ceo's sahre the -- share the same view that he is doing the right thing. i do not believe that mark which up to these things if he did not believe in what they were doing her culturally undirec-- and directly, it makes sense. emily: sap ibm. cory: they are two companies that are similar businesses which is slinging hardware selling services, and selling a good chunk of software. in both cases you have companies that say we want to be in the software world. so hp is going for the split of the company. there is in no way they could do a split of the company and do an acquisition. they cannot afford an acquisition like this anyway unless it will be compaq where it is issuing equity. a marriage of equals. that is hard to imagine happening but it would help them grow topline or at least not shrink topline. i think ibm is interesting. this is a world of speculation. when you look at ibm, ibm was a company that talked endlessly about cloud. they wanted all stuff in

benioff is a sales force. when he comes on and talks to jim, keeps speeches.r in revenues. we're a $10 billion run rate company down the road. i don't see how he could ever give this up under the umbrella of one of his competitors. >> sure. i guess the argument is that anything could be had for a price. it doesn't mean it's one these suitors. >> microsoft not as much because microsoft does have solid growth certainly relative to oracle. the only thing that microsoft has which would make it a potential acquirer is $85 billion in cash. that's way more than oracle. oracle isn't growing. they are paying a 1.5% dividend. the sales force app is an unbelievably powerful echo system. you almost have to base it off the 10 billion revenue numbers. >> can i push back on your empire comment. >> isn't there a scenario that by joining somebody like perhaps an microsoft, that that does create an empire and benioff is able to focus on something larger. soio no that the empire building scenario is sort of mutually exclusive or outside the scope of m & a. >> no. that's a good p

emily: from a leadership perspective, we saw marc benioff. is there a changing of the guard happening? mark: i think it is possible that actually nothing changed at oracle. [laughter] i think that might have had to do with the number of papers that larry has to sign. the number of meetings he has to go to. but he does still have -- product development still works for larry. it will be similar for quite a while. emily: how do you see the digital payments and mobile payments race playing out? mark: what we see from our standpoint is, it is by far the most innovative and radical thing. it's the thing that will have a big impact over 20 years. apple pay is the thing that will have an impact on the next three years. and the combination of those two is going to cause enormous change. ♪ emily: let's talk about the next generation. you recently sounded the alarm about startups. another tweet storm. there are a few here, so bear with me. new founders in the last 10 years have only been in the environment where money is always easy to raise in higher v

mark benioff has been adamant that tech companies need to do more. what do you think?c: i think that is basically -- that is basically right. i think that is basically true. a lot of the new startups are brand-new. but a big part of this is what the big companies do. and the sort of maturation of companies when they go from being startups to being big companies, and stepping up on their responsibilities. i think that is a big deal. emily: what about inclusion and diversity, something else that you and laura have been giving to? why is inclusion important in silicon valley? marc: i believe tech is inherently inclusionary. tech wants to bring people in. tech wants to include as many people as possible. the reason i am so confident about that is because of the incredible coverage that -- incredible people in silicon valley from the incredible number of countries. the challenge is, we are still underrepresented when it comes especially to women, and then in the u.s. when it comes to african-americans and latinos. emily: should women ask for raises if they think they deserv

marc benioff making a lot of loud noises, as marc benioff is prone to do.ut your company, yelp, apple, really getting out there. angie's list is an indiana based company really quickly speaking out about this. why do you think tech companies have taken the lead here? mike: i think mark did a great service in focusing attention on this law. this is different from the laws in many other states. that's not to say those laws don't have problems, but this one is especially egregious. by focusing attention and by giving the tech community, which swings a lot of revenue, which has a lot of influence among businesses in indiana, he gave us the chance to affect the course of this law. and, i hope, to lead to its revision or repeal. cory: mark, it certainly did that. also, tim cook, at the biggest company in the world, and the biggest tech company, talked about all the other states that have similar laws. have you gone through and thought about what this means to the other states? have you put yourself in position where you're going to have to speak out or decide whe
