in alabama governor robert bentley cut education funds and decimated budgets for parks and historic sites. but he hasn't touched the confederate memorial park in mountain creek. it's in tip top shape with a $400,000 budget funded entirely by something called the confederate tax. the associated press reports the tax originally funded a pension plan and nursing home for confederate veterans. but alabama's last confederate veteran passed away more than 75 years ago. so today that tax makes sure this alabama park covered in confederate flags is the best kept in the state.
