that includes linn, johnson, dubuque and benton counties. the iowa workforce development has installed new software into its system after wrongfully paying out nearly $100,000. a report from the state auditor shows i-w-d wrongfully paid out more than $909,000 dollars in unemployment benefits from 2012 through 2014. those included overpayments and payouts to fake companies. the auditor's office found more than $700,000 in overpayments were due to a telephone system malfunction. on march 8, 2014, iowa workforce development's phone system did not properly record information called in. so the organization paid out the maximum benefit on each claim that week. former i-w-d development director under reported the amount of people improperly paid when she testified at a government hearing in 2014. workforce officials say they've since installed new data software that's better at detecting fraud. "there have been some people who have violated the rules and maybe snuck home on their lunch hour, when they are not suppose to go home. " the bracelet comes at no cost to the tax payer. if an inmate leaves jail on work release, the county will charge that inmate six dollars a day for the use of the mandatory bracelet. cedar lake supporters now have a plan to transform the lake into a recreational area for the community. friends of cedar lake unveiled its master plan at an open house this afternoon. the plans includes everything from vegetative floating islands to additional parking and an overlook. the group is also planning to add artwork to revitalize the area of the l
