the mayor of berkeley has a grand plan. to unite the east bay with a regional, increased minimum wage. kron 4's alecia reid talked to the mayor about how the plan would work, and asked small business owners what they think about it. business owners understand that minimum wage is about to go up in a few short months, but for the additional amount that the mayor is proposing.they hope it wont be too much too soon. berkeley's minimum wage is currently $8. come july, the new mandatory state minmum will be 9 bucks. mayor tom bates believes it should be even higher - and is proposing increasing the wage in increments, similar to oakland's current ballot. but instead of jumping from $9 in july of this year to 12 in may 2015, it would go from 9 to 10.04 in october 2014. sot - what i'm suggesting is the rest of us do something similar, but not such a radical jump and take three steps and then we'll end up in the same spot as oakland by 2016. to eliminate competition between businesses in different cities based on wage, mayor bates
