>> she came to berkeley to honor a woman who had been the second woman put appointed to the berkeley law faculty and first woman dean. their friendship went back to the early 1970s when they met at a conference and wound up deciding with a third co-author kenneth davidson to write what would become the very first casebook on sex discrimination and the law. in that book they founded the field of gender discrimination and i called justice ginsburg the justice they remained lifelong friends and closest and best of friends. her room a text away -- passed away and colleagues had a lecture in her honor and there is no one that would have been better to give that first lecture than justice ginsburg so i invited her to come and to my delight but not to my surprise she said yes, absolutely. what's interesting about it is originally she was supposed to come in early 2019 but because doctors discovered lung cancer and she had to have surgery, we had to postpone. she resisted postponing. it was so important for her to come that i really had to entrust her family and others to prevail on her she
