the complete weather warning coverage let's condition with bernadette woods she is tracking bill and other storms. >> that's right. a lot going on around the area. doppler warning still some rain out. there not the heaviest of rain that we saw earlier. but when we put it in motion you can see all of that winding down. still seeing the greens and blues out there but lighter rain than what we were dealing with earlier. a flood warning in effect for caroline county until 1 1:30. but what i want to do is show you one more thing. take with me here what we have got going on when we highlight the last two days worth of rain there are areas between 4-8 inches showing up here. this is on radar so not ground confirmation. but northwest of dc some five inch and three inch just around annapolis three inch totals. so a lot of rain in the last two days. that's why the flood watch is in effect. flip it over and show you the flood watches that continue for the next few hours. that flash flood warning. and with all of this going on take a look hurricane bill is still churning out there causing the pr

bernadette woods is tracking the path of hurricane bill from the first warning weather center. you already called it a monster,. >> it is a big one, and it's getting organized. category 3 or higher is what we consider a major hurricane, it's not quite there yet, all signs are showing it will get to that point. want to show you the latest satellite here. notice that eye forming well in the last few frames there, this is a healthy storm, and that's why we think it will continue to strengthen, as far as the track goes, it does take it north of the the islands, it makes more a northerly turn over time here, this point it's moving west/northwest, it's going to turn more to the northwest. the thing is, winds are 104 miles per hour, they're expected to go up. also, notice that track, it eventually recurves before it hits the united states, it will come close to bermuda, that's the main island of concern, this is something, still a few days out, still a strong storm, we'll keep an eye on this, and have your complete forecastment. >> stay with eyewitness news for all of the season's sto

bernadette woods, good afternoon. >> good afternoon, ton and everybody. it has been a rough week of weather that we've had. the good news to report today is that things are calming down, at least for a day. want to show you first warning doppler radar. nothing going on in our area. we have not seen that much lately. when we open it up we can show you the storm from the weekend now well offshore and down to our southeast. you can also see this one off to the northwest will be approaching us but it is not going to move our way today. however, with the wild week of weather that we have had, we've also seen some changes in our rainfall, and for more on that we're going to sent over to marty in the outback. >> hey, bern. thank you very much. numbers can get boring every once in awhile but every once in awhile it's the numbers that tell the story. for 23 days in july we had bare al trace of rain. in our rainfall, not deficit, but the rainfall that we had on the positive side of the scale, was at about three and a half inches up from northerly when we began the

bernadette woods has more. those were pretty strong that moved across the eastern shore earlier. >> we've had a few different rounds of very strong thunderstorms. the one in cecil county, they're already cleaning up. we have video from first warning doppler to take you back to that storm as it rolled through. take a look at that time clock. as we get into the 9:30, 10:00 range, the bright colors, all the intensity, a funnel cloud was reported but not a tornado. you need the funnel cloud to touch the ground for a tornado, the and the national weather service says yes, there was a funnel cloud, but not a tornado. later in the day we had another tornado warning. that was from our evening newscast. you can see from that box moving through, basically just to the southwest of salisbury and the south of vienna. we have not seen any reports of any tornadoes with that, bough few reports of waterspouts on the river also. so a few different areas that did have some very scary weather. in addition to all of that there has

let's check in with meteorologist bernadette woods now for a look at the weather. bernadette? >> weatherwise. beautiful day. changing completely. want to show you, we did top out around 86 for our high. not too far off the average, which is now down to 85 degrees. we started out at 66. and more on the way back down this evening. 74 degrees in baltimore. and the winds are light out there also. since the winds are light, we're going to see some fog form overnight. not a whole lot. overall, pretty quiet night out there. you can see on this picture. isolated thunderstorms formed over the mountains today. that's all we're really finding because it's pretty quiet out there. and it will continue to be quiet into tomorrow. but the difference is, the high pressure that was building on top of us today will move offshore. as it does, it's going to connect with this really hot air mass over the middle of the country and start pulling it our way. tomorrow, temperatures jumping into the 90s for our highs. then by monday, we see 90s once again. we'll start to feel that humidity really creepi

meteorologist bernadette woods is standing by. but we begin with meteorologist tim williams. >> hello, vic. good evening, everyone. you just had a glimpse of our satellite picture. let's give you an idea of what that means to us. this is danny as it sits right now. it's a tropical storm in the atlantic. this storm now, just about 735 miles to the south/southeast of cape hatteras. the outer banks of north carolina. and moving in a northwest fashion. the center of this storm really is not where you see all of the colors. it's just to the left of that. what we're expecting is that most of that activity, those thunderstorms, will start to wrap around this storm. it will intensify and go from a tropical storm to a category 1 hurricane. what that means for us, as we mentioned, it's going to start moving up the coastline, taking a wide north turn. and it's going to start to turn and possibly strengthen with about 74 to 75-mile-per-hour winds as it starts to move on the outer banks and into the mid-atlantic. that would be late friday into

bernadette woods is tracking it all for us in the first warning weather center. >> three named tropical systems, claudette made landfall early this morning, i want to show you first warning doppler radar, what we have going on at this point is mainly heavy rain. just offshore you're seeing the purples, that is going to come on shore in the next few moments here, will continue to feed up from the gulf, it's lost a lot of its circulation, it made landfall at 1:10 eastern time just outside of fort walton beach. in the center of this, it will continue to move off to the northwest. this track right here, we're going to switch it over and show you our satellite here, better idea of the track going on, there's still a lot of rain with this system, and some of it is going to get drawn up to the north and into a front that will move our way. at this point the last advisory has been issued on claudette. we have to give you a quick update on bill, as of the 11:00 update, winds up to 92 miles an hour, that's still a category 1 storm, it's a really good chance it will be category 2. it's going to co

eyewitness news is live at first warning weather, meteorologist bernadette woods is in the outback but we begin with bob turk in the weather center. >> pretty good thunderstorm 4:00 or so in harford county. it's all gone. i can't find anything now. look at radar, one sprinkle going on across portions of virginia and the mountains. these are pretty strong storms a long time ago but they've all pretty much diminished so it looks like a pretty quiet night. it's humid and so maybe we'll have showers and storms tomorrow. speaking of showers and storms and rainfall, bernadette has a look at some of the unusual rainfall patterns we've had this year. >> when you look back at the numbers, it's been a year of extremes. we started out very dry. we got seven inches below at one point. now is at the end of march, web he were officially in a drought. after that we all know it turned around for the wetter. we got to five inches above, then a dry spell for most of july. we did remain on the surplus side of everything but you see the numbers came down to just under two inches before going back up now t

let's check in with bernadette woods for the weather. >> well, we have the transition from the storms. we're showing the hottest air this season and in between that, i want to show you the radar, there's a warm front through the state. it will bring in the warmer air and i want to show you, we've seen thunderstorms firing there and they're drifting away from maryland. now, this could have showers as it skims across maryland and for the most part, people will see clouds and we could see a shower or two. tonight before the warm air it will be the hottest we've felt so far this season and we'll have the numbers coming up. >>> and baltimore's city hall is getting spruced up. the scaffolding is set up for the workers to restore the marble and the damaged walls and cleaning the gutters and the wiring inside the building. it will cost about $400,000 it will be finished this december. >>> well, coming up tonight on wjz eyewitness news. the mounted patrol is in jeopardy and tonight, they're issuing a new plea to survive. >>> new video surfaces recording the final moments after the deadly trage

bernadette woods is live with a look at first warning live doppler radar. it's humid, bernadette. >> first we're going to take you back to last night to show you what happened. that line of thunderstorms produced all of the damage both in frederick and carroll county. one more loop we'll take you through to show you the bright colors. that's when the tornadoes did touch down. so let's show you this scale, enhanced fujita scale. it's coming in as an ef here on the lower end, but you see the damage was there. for the second tornado in frederick county, they haven't officially rated it yet, but they are saying winds of about 100 miles per hour. that puts it as an ef1 on the scale. carroll county winds estimated at 75 to 85 miles per hour. it was about 1 mile in length. now for the new market one, about 100 mile-per-hour winds were reported. right now, we're going to take you back to first warping doppler radar -- warning doppler radar. we've had thunderstorms go through. this is the biggest around the area right now just off to the west of severna park drifting

meteorologist bernadette woods and bob turk. let's start with bob. >>> let's take a look at showers. and we're starting to see some activity. right now, it's up across the north. north of gettysburg, north of hanover. heading out to the south and southeast. some of these might make it into baltimore and harford county for the next hour or two. for the west of us, far western portions of washington county. and around the eastern shore, one tiny little shower there. east of the region. it's very minor. we expect to see activity pop through the afternoon. and hopefully we'll see this moving in our direction. to give us more cooling showers. and at least give temporary relief to what we've seen the last couple of days. let's take a look around the region. it was significantly cooler today than it was yesterday. the dew point is a little higher at 72. makes it feel like 92 here. the hot spot, once again, ocean city, feels like 103 in washington. cool spot, oakland, about 81 is the way it feels. bernadette joins me now with the first

and meteorologist bernadette woods is tracking live doppler radar. >> we'll start here with radar, first of all. then we'll get to the tropics in just a moment. we want to show you what's going on locally first. because we feel this is a big deal. and there are a lot of thunderstorms and heavier rains happening down at the shore. the heaviest of the rain has made its way over into delaware. but you can see this other batch, really strong thunderstorm, just around easton has built up. there's not a whole lot of movement to these. notice, they're kind of building up and going back down again. we're going to see them fire and die down as we head through the evening hours. there's another batch that we have been tracking, too. off to the west here, there was just around hagerstown, strong thunderstorm not that long ago. that has moved north. we see this other line this. batch is actually moving west to east. cumberland had strong thunderstorms go through. you can see, there's that batch for hagerstown earlier today. here comes the line from the west this. is more associated with the front. t
