as you indicated, it includes bernal heights, and it also includes the portola. it is such a rich district. getting to know people of the district through the campaign, doing the job of a supervisor has been the most rewarding super rigid experience. -- the most rewarding experience. it is amazing how the people are. it has been a great experience. i do not know that i fully understood the richness of this district until i was actually talking to so many people on the campaign trail. now as a supervisor i see it every day. i see that. and there are challenges in these tough economic times. but i also see so much potential, so many amazing people, and we in city government have an opportunity to address so many problems and make so many things better. the campaign was a learning experience on so many levels. beyond that, i think you've learned something about yourself when you are putting yourself out there through the political process. i was very lucky that i had that opportunity because where i come from something as basic as free, democratic elections, that is

supervisor campos: there are issues that come up, whether you're talking about the mission, bernal heights, portola. one of the issues we have worked on in bernal heights is the issue of protecting a mural around the public library, which is an issue that raise a lot of other things. it led to a larger discussion in terms of who we are as a community. some people wanted to preserve the mural. others wanted to get rid of the mural. and we believe in a dialogue. so we brought together in mediation everyone so we could come to an understanding of what our common ground was and to see if we could agree on certain basic things, and we were able to come up with a solution that makes sense for the entire community. in a sense, it reflected larger issues that are impacting the city as a whole. so, there are issues like that that would require a knowledge of the neighborhood, and knowledge of what is happening on the ground, and knowing the difference is of how all bernal heights may look at an issue vis a vis the mission or portola. as a supervisor, i do have to be able to balance managing citywid

he served at the bernal heights neighborhood center and also as its director.ious boards and commissions, most recently for the jamestown community center. he provided consulting services and was a leader on a recent ongoing neighborhood issue to save the preschool and mural. he has been described as one of the great ones in community building in san francisco and an extraordinarily gifted organizer. we're joined by his two son s -- we're joined by his two sons. and like to invite them up with his sister rosie and supervisor campos. it is with great respect, and dignity, and honor that we present to you on behalf of the city and county of san francisco the dolores huerta lifetime achievement award for 2011. apart from the tower and the microwave towers -- the one i am thinking of on bernal heights. -- commissioner sugaya: >> recently, there has been a move to start mounting smaller antennas, called distributed antenna systems because they can carry more than one carrier. that are being erected on the utility poles. that are lower power, but they are much closer to one another. commissioner sugaya: i have a question for at&t, someone that can answer a question about the mounting on a separate colorado system. -- poll system. -- pole system. is there anyone who can answer that? >> i know t-mobile installs their own antennas on utility poles. otherwise, they go to a third- party vendor. 40-x -- commissioner sugaya: can the antennas you are proposing be mounted on a pole? >> i cannot. the frequencies put in the distributed antenna system do not afford us the ability to use the radio bands we serve our customers over, whether it is data or cellular. that is why we do not put up distributed antenna systems right now. we do not have a solution to be able to do that. we do buy pieces of the carrier net

they settled in at bernal heights, and they stayed here until 1906, until the earthquake. during world war ii, they were in terms with 100,000 other japanese-americans, my parents and grandparents, they lost everything. they were there for four years. when i learned about it, i am -- i was angry. but it taught me not to be better, to get an education, and to stand up for what i believe. that is what we need in san francisco right now. we need a mayor who is going to stand up for what he or she believes, to make sure that is the people's interests to come first. a lot of people can talk about, yes, i want to change this or change that. but i set out to fix the city's fiscal crisis two years ago. it was not easy. i knew that my days would be angry at me. and it was something that needed to be done. that is why gathered signatures, 50,000, tries to fix the biggest fiscal crisis, which is now the number-one issue in this election. if you want somebody is going to stand up, somebody will make decisions for you and out for special interests are powerbrokers, please vote for jeff

there is an historic, multicultural community mural that was put up over two years at the bernal heightsous seek a -- singer, the chileans singer, and an african-american singer that has no words. two years ago, the library commission considered what to do about replacing or restoring the mural and a so-called compromise was reached. by formal resolution, the library commission approved restoration of the mural on the front of the library and the replacement through a community process of the other two sides. there was an issue with money. $18,000 was going to be a problem for the estimated cost of restoration. two years later, a very on public -- unpublic process came up with a solution, which was full-blown brought to the library commission, and that, suddenly, without any mention about the library commissions previous resolution, was going to get rid of every square inch of the existing multi-cultural mural. not only the, but there was no discussion about the money anymore, although dig around on blogs, turns out that the new budget for the new plan is more than 10 times the amount of
