. >> bernard, let me throw a little bit. he is largely planning to make it more than just a ceremonial role. does he have the support to do that in will he be able to make the president's position far more powerful than it is? >> because this is the first time that turks have directly act elected the president -- it used to be the parliament. erdogan hopes the popular mandate will give him the ability to make the presidency much more of an executive role. essentially, in recent president's past goal, the outgoing president is amongst them. they have used the role as a more ceremonial sort of role. erdogan has made no secret that he wants to have more power as president. if he wants to really make it an executive presidency, he will need to change the constitution and need parliament to back those changes. so, it's not going to be that easy for him to make those big executive changes but turks can certainly expect to enter choppy, uncharted political waters in the coming months and years. >> bernard smith live in ankora. as p

bernard, you were a police chief had a very complicated place, los angeles, now a member of the city council. the disengagement in ferguson is extraordinary. it's not just the police department that's virtually all white, it's the city council and the school board. they are not like thing people who represent them ethnically or racially. >> i think it's very important, as we watch the coverage of this incident, is that we have not heard, in my judgment, one word from the mayor or the city council members. you hear from the governor. you hear from the highway patrol. you hear from the st. louis county police. and i think one of the issues that is going to have to be addressed, what is the recovery plan for this? i when is the ferguson police going to get reintroduced to the community so they can begin to work in relationship? when is the community, in addition to raising their hands as to a protest, become activists and that energy goes into elections and voting so they can take that role that they -- that they request to be a part of city government, showing up at council meetings, e

and joining us from north carolina, bernard goldberg. get to the media coverage. >> okay. >> israel/hamas. has it been fair generally speaking? >> here's what the problem with the coverage is. video is a very powerful force, bill. especially when it it's showing death and destruction. and in this case, video doesn't do nuance very well. it doesn't do context very well. so video shows dead babies and rubble, but it doesn't explain the fundamental truth that one side wants to live in peace and the other side wants to kill as many israelis and jews as possible. video does a guy used to live in this house and now the house is destroyed. it does that very well but it doesn't explain very well why did the israelis shoot their missile at that house? okay. so in that sense in answer to your question, no, the coverage hasn't been fair. but that's because of the power of video and the fact that a lot of reporters are liberal and they tend to root for the underdog. the second point i'd like to make is that i wonder how the people covering this part
