meteorologist howard bernstein is tracking the latest line of showers. when will this end, howard? >>> well, it is going to get a little bit better over the weekend. i do have some optimism for mother's day. but today, the showers will be spotty until late tonight and tomorrow. watch the big upper storm over the ohio and tennessee valleys. look at the rain and thunderstorms occurring in virginia and north carolina, and as a matter of fact, the freezing level is not that high. so what has been going on in the roanoke area is hail. lots of it. and these pictures were sent to us on twitter. check it out. there was so much hail, it covered the ground. they had to get plows out there to make the roads passable in some spots. north of there, north of charlottesville, we have some steadier heavier rain between culpepper and charlottesville, south of sper ryville for the most part. from orange, west. this is the worst locally, some spotty drizzle. spotty showers. everything moving from the north east to the southwest. and the cool northeast winds are going to be temperatures in the low 50s

meteorologist howard bernstein is tracking what is headed our way. howard? >>> even a little bit of sun right now coming through the overcast. but we could see a shower here in the metro later. the areas that are north and west, likely going to see rain showers this afternoon and this evening. already tracking it, out to the west. and west virginia, western maryland, and even eastern west virginia, as this is now crossing areas on i-81, toward harper's ferry, just about into frederick county. light to occasionally moderate showers out there. you can see the yellows, having a tough time getting past garrett county and allegheny county. lighter showers, nonetheless. shenandoah valley, looking okay at the moment except when you get to winchester and points north. we have the showers. charlestown, over to harper's ferry. cabletown and inwood. 60 in town. mid-60s in the cool spots. we are running 55 to 60. a few more degrees today. lots of clouds though. and the showers mainly north and west, highs in the low 60s. and hey, if you can't join us, online, or on tv,

let's get to howard bernstein first meteorologist. >> yes, we will not have a nice stretch of clear dry weather at a decent day today some clouds have moved with a few radar returns coming towards west virginia and western virginia, probably any of that is reaching the ground. we are dealing with a very comfortable evening despite these clouds. temperatures are still from the mid-60s to 70 in college park. we are sitting at 68 in fairfax and the winds are starting to die down after having gusts towards 30 miles an hour. if you're going out this evening, it looks like a fine evening for soccer. whatever else that temperatures will fall through the 60s into the 50s by midnight. and tomorrow, well it looks like we will have a chance for a couple of showers as we head in towards the middle of the day on the afternoon. it won't be as warm with highs in the 60s to maybe the 70s in the southern suburbs. i'll be coming back in a few minutes and talk about the unsettled weather that we'll be looking at for the rest of the coming week. we'll see you then. >> thank you, howard. just ahead on wusa9
