police say they discovered the body of berry bingham yesterday morning. tara moriarty joins us now with details of this investigation. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. when berry's son was unable to reach his father he called his dad's office. workers from the union came here to his townhouse located off henry street. they noticed his car was parked in the street. when they walked up to the door they noticed it was open. and they knocked and there was no answer. now the co-workers then called police who went into the house around 11:30 yesterday morning and made a gruesome discovery. they found the body of the 64- year-old which had suffered trauma. authorities won't say at this point how he was killed but they are treating this case as a homicide. bingham was the political director of the local 1021 which represents public workers including those in the city of oakland, alameda county and bart employees. he was a deacon at his church, the first african-american elected to the alameda school board. he was divorced with three children. now, a
