i'm bertha coombs from cnbc. wall street is set to open in the red again.stors continuing to track the crisis in ukraine. there was a volatile session to start the week yesterday. we had the dow closing down nearly 170 points, but that was off of the lows of the day. the s&p 500 slipped only about a quarter of a percent, while the nasdaq managed to eek out half a percent gain. for the month, the dow, nasdaq and s&p all losing more than 3% as russia invaded ukraine and worries about inflation and rising interest rates also hit stocks. in focus today we're awaiting reports on manufacturing, construction spending and auto sales, plus we'll get earnings from salesforce.com, we heard from target and they had much better than expected earnings. meantime, linkedin wants to help you explain any career gaps in your resumÉ to a potential employer. it's rolled out a new tool to highlight what you learned from those experiences. you can add a career gap, which include care giving, parenting, layoffs or travel, and they can put that on their profile and linkedin is also

i'm bertha coombs from cnbc. wall street seems to be focusing on the good news. we look to open a bit higher this morning for stocks. investors are watching the situation in ukraine and the fed and inflation today. the dow ending flat yesterday after being up by about 450 points. the s&p 500 and nasdaq closed down for the seventh time in the last eight days. the s&p is down over 12% year-to-date. that's the fourth worst start in s&p's history, trailing behind the 1935 first quarter during the depression, 2020 during the pandemic and 2009 during the financial crisis. the fed beginning a two-day meeting. it's expected to raise interest rates for the first time since 2018. and we also are getting a report on producer prices, inflation at the wholesale level. speaking of which, lyft is joining uber, tagging on a temporary fuel surcharge on rides to help drivers offset higher gas prices. lyft will release more details in the coming days. in the meantime, grubhub is boosting driver pay to try to offset the impact of higher gas prices. bloomberg reports they haven't dec

i'm bertha coombs from cnbc. we're watching wall street this morning.looks like we're going to get a little bit of a bounce at the opening trade, although oil prices are surging again amid the conflict between russia and ukraine. u.s. crude prices topping $110 a barrel overnight. that's the highest level we've seen since the summer of 2013 on concerns that we could see supply disruption in terms of russian oil. markets fell sharply yesterday, the dow closing down nearly 600 points, the s&p 500, and the nasdaq both losing 1.5%. investors are watching the price of oil and what that could mean for inflation and the economy, and the challenge that it's going to pose for the fed as it tries to combat inflation. meantime, if you think prices at the pump are high, i'm going to look at an ev, those prices may be going up, too. rivian is raising costs, the company increasing the price of its current pickup truck by about 17%, its suv model by 20%. and speaking of higher prices, amc says it's going to charge more for tickets to the batman who is opening this week

i'm bertha coombs from cnbc. you're looking at a higher open on wall street, reacting to headlines coming out of russia with vladimir putin saying that there is some progress in talks with ukraine. we'll see if that's true. investors yesterday selling off, the fallout coming after we saw consumer prices rising at the fastest annual rate in february in 40 years, with overall inflation up 7.9%, groceries up 8.5%, more than that last month year over year. we're now looking at today the possibility that the federal reserve is going to be raising those interest rates by at least a quarter point when it meets next week. the dow still on track for its fifth straight losing week, the s&p 500 and nasdaq also on pace for a negative week. this morning we're going to be watching for a consumer sentiment data coming out midmorning. meantime, the irs is planning to to hire 10,000 employees over the next several months to help clear millions of unprocessed tax returns. they say the agency will create a 700 person surge team to
