the funeral will take place at 1:00 this afternoon behind us at the beth el hebrew congregation. thousands are expected to attend today's service. then everything go started last night during the visitation that was held several hours. hundreds of people including friends, family, and fellow firefighters and paramedics if walked by or rather walked into the funeral home at seminary road and greeted the family if including his wife and his brother if and other family members. joshua weissman was killed last week when responding to a call on 395. he fell over an overpass and suffered a severe head injury and later died at the hospital. of course, a lot of people are scheduled to attend today's funeral service. a lot of them members of the alexandria fire department. everyone in the fire department is off-duty so they can attend a memorial services. because of that other departments like arlington and fairfax will be stepping in to answer the calls for service in alexandria soda aspire family can have time to grieve together. once again, the funeral scheduled to take place at 1:00 t

. >> reporter: over 1,000 people came to temple beth-el. they came to mourn the passing of the local paramedic. some of that took place here on the streets of alexandrea. a band of pipers and drummers led a mournful march down alexandrea's seminary road they came to honor and celebrate the life of one of their own. the 33-year-old joshua wiseman, an upstate new york teenager, he became a fire fighter and later a paramedic. he was responding to a car fire on february 8th when he fell through a small gap on an i-395 bridge. he died the next day. his coffin was born on the fire engine of the station. number 206. the small group of civilians living nearby came to pay their respects. the entire alexandrea fire department could come to that funeral because firefighters volunteered to man the alexandrea stations for a two- day period. at the service, there were songs, prayers and funny stories and recollections of how much he loved being a paramedic and how much he loved life. >> he always had a plan and was keptly -- consistently thinking to the
