i visited walter reed medical center...in bethesda, and sat down with one soldier with an incredibletory. for franz walkup.. the military is a family heritage. six out his seven brothers are in the army.. most of them paratroopers. in 2007 one of franz's brothrs was killed in iraq... and he knew it was his time to join. after serving two tours walkup joined the military after his older brother was killed in iraq. franz also deployed to iraq.. and then in afghanistan.. a tour that would change his life. that was in 2009. since then - walka has had nearly 80 surgeries.. and underwent years of rehab at walter reed. and it's not over yet. just last month he returned here to bethesda, from tennesee for another surgery to have his leg amputated. even with the tough road to recovery, walkup says he wouldn't change a thing. you can hear more coming up in our eight o'clock hour and we'll be bringing you other incredible stories throughout the morning. ad lib to weather freeze warning until 10am this morning for nw suburbs. freeze watch tonight through sat. am for majority of the area. - cold
