tanker truck overturned and burst into flames on the route 90 exit ramp to route route 130 near the betsy ross bridge in pennsauken new jersey. neighbors heard explosions. >> it was a heck of a way to wake up, i tell you that. so i'm in that building right there and i hear explosions, like five or six explosions. >> reporter: authorities say the driver who was traveling alone was able to get out of the vehicle. no other cars or trucks were involved. firefighters started dousing the tanker with foam around noon and it appeared to be out but then reignited. some neighbors stayed in their homes even as black dark thick smoke moved their way. then officials told them to come out. >> everyone needs to get out here. they probably saw me in the window looking over there and they were like everyone needs to get out so were digit by 12:30 the flames were under control but the pavement were badly burned even melted away. for people who live nearby this was all too close for comfort. >> very close, very close sir. >> reporter: and as we look back live firefighters are up there but at the moment they

it comes off the betsy ross bridge. if you cross that bridge you're on 90 and you would take the ramp on to 130. it was 11:00 a.m. when a tanker truck carrying a full load of fuel overturned and burst into flames. in fact part of the tanker truck, the explosion was such that part of the tanker truck our chopper pilot telling us it came off and was burning a distance away. that's since extinguished. firefighters took time how to approach the burning vehicle. they needed to know what was burning. they moved in with haz/mat teams and covered the tanker truck with foam. it did a job for a time extinguishing the flames, bus stop on the tanker truck it has burden into flames yet again. looks like they are putting water on the fire. we did see from our chopper shot in the surrounding neighborhood looked like people were coming out of their homes and leaving whether they were doing that on their own to be cautious or officials were going door to door telling them to do that. conditions are extreme, there's windy and ice that's

yesterday you remember the big tanker fire route 90 eastbound coming off the betsy ross bridge, that eastbound side of the ramp to 130 is still closed as a result of that repair work that crews are out there doing. so take the tacony-palmyra as your alternate. that's your best bet. >>> and part of me says that this closure could be causing problems this morning. let's go to caykaty zachry here with more. >> reporter: you are looking at what police have blocked off, they blocked off the route 90 eastbound ramp to 130. a very busy stretch at this time of the morning. that's where the tanker overturned yesterday. i can tell you over the last few hours that there's still a strong odor of gasoline present. now, here's video from skyforce 10 which was over the fiery scene yesterday. police say that the driver of the tanker truck, which was carrying 8,000 gallons of fuel lost control on the exit ramp between routes 130 and 90 in penn saw ken and overturned. police say speed and icy conditions on the roads could be a factor in this crash. neighbors tell us over the years that that stretch of
