construction crews are digging at an old cemetery along art street near the betsy ross house. they thought all the bodies had been removed more than a century ago. today we found out two dozen of some of the first people who ever lived in philadelphia, they were left behind. nbc 10's deanna durante is joining us. this all started as a small find and it got more significant as the day wore on? >> reporter: those crews have just left the site within the last couple of minutes. they tell us that today, construction stopped here in order to be able to lift a lot of the heavy dirt out of the way. they say that they are working now to put those people where they should have been placed, more than a century ago. some have been buried here since before the signing of the declaration of independence. this is the view we saw today. a skull, bones and coffins. all once part of the first baptist cemetery. it was supposedly moved in 1859, 1860. so this cemetery was not something that we were expecting to find. >> reporter: last fall construction workers breaking ground on a new apartment c
