betty: i'm betty liu in new york.e getting more headlines from the san francisco fed president, john williams. the not a voting member of fomc, but is talking about rate hikes. he says in 2017, one more hike, three more in 2018. that's his reasonable guess. he also says there is no need to raise rates "that far." he also mentions he sees a period of continuity under jay powell at the fed, which the transition will have an early next year. also says inflation will pick up in the next two years. jay powell is a consistent supporter of fed policy path, this theme of gradual pace when it comes to hiking rates. certainly, one more for december, three in 2018 is his reasonable guess. let's take more context here, we are joined by ric spooner from cmc markets. let's talk about these lines coming through from williams. what did you make of them? it seems like the fed is starting this mantra where inflation is heating up, but the bond markets continue to really doubt those calls. safe from inflation or is the market just disto

betty: why?oger: i do not think the house and senate will be able to reconcile their differences and it is not clear which bill the house version, the senate version, or which conference committee version of the compromise will be able to garner 52 votes -- 50 votes plus one in the senate. is republican strategy rather understandable. it is to pass this on the same republican on the -- only basis which they tried to use with the repeal of obamacare. that is going to be challenging when you have a two vote margin in the senate. the ceiling is kept in the senate bill for the estate tax. they have very little room to work with and i do not think they will reconcile these differences. says: mnuchin is saying he -- sees minor issues in the house and senate. what is the issue that will derail it? roger: the debate over the state and local tax reduction is one of the biggest. withsenate bill does away deductibility of taxes and the house bill says property taxes up to $10,000 a year would be adaptable.

betty: indeed.s like some of the big thees that we saw like deduction, the individual mandate come and those have been largely resolved, so what will be the biggest sticking point now? >> i actually don't see a major sticking point between the two chambers. ort was the worry with salt aca. aca has brought a few senators to the table. senator collins and makowski might be getting a commitment on independent market stabilization for a vote to repeal the mandate, so it ends up winning their votes. the real issue is can the senate get to a compromise among itself. if that is possible, i don't see any real issues between the two chambers that are not resolvable. betty: no sticking points today, but are there a few down the track? paul: not once did president trump a mention debt. this will add $1.5 trillion to the debt. are we setting the scene for another grand showdown? absolutely. the folks in the senate who care deeply about the debt, corker, flake, mccain potentially come a could have a problem with
