betty nguyen has more. >>> janet hogan was down to her last breath.hen the car crashed flipping into a raging canal. witnesses could only watch as 74 jld janet hogan battled a powerful current to stay afloat. she had already escaped car crash that killed her husband and son. >> i can't really answer any questions specific to the cause, whether the car was accelerating, whether he lost control. >> reporter: heavy rain transformed a walnut creek water way into a raging river, moving nearly 20 miles an hour, hogan was carried three miles from the crash site. she managed to stay afloat long enough for a california highway patrol helicopter crew to arrive. the rescue team moved quickly after spotting owe began go under. and on the second try, pulled her unconscious body from the 50 degree water to safety. now hogan is no doubt lucky to be alive. this was a difficult rescue. the firefighters seen hoisting her out of the water dislocated his shoulder and tore a ligament during that rescue. >> we'll talk to him right now and his partner. joining us exclusivel

betty nguyen is at the news desk. lots going on. >>> good morning, everybody. we begin with the securities and exchange commission and some shocking findings concerning senior staff and online pornography. nancy cordes is in washington with the details. >> reporter: that's right, an internal investigation finds that officials at the federal agency responsible for policing our financial system were in some cases spending the majority of their days looking at and downloading porn. the internal investigation probed into 33 cases of senior sec officials surfing the web for explicit images. 31 of the cases were in the last 21 1/2 years alone during the bernie madoff scandal and a new collapse of our financial markets. the report had some as sonnishing findings. 17 of the employees were at a senior level earning salaries up of to $222,000 a year. one senior attorney spent up to eight hours a day looking at and downloading pornography. he ran out of space on his hard drive and burned files to dvds which he kept in boxes in his office. an accountant who was blocked mor

right now we turn our attention to the news desk where betty nguyen is filling in for erica hill. good morning. >>> good morning, everybody. well, they are calling it a miracle. in north central china this morning, more than 100 coal miners trapped in the depth of a flooded mine for more than a week have emerged alive. peter sharp of britain sky news has the latest. >> reporter: this high school been something of a miracle. for nearly a week, no sign of life. on friday, they heard faint tappings on a pipe, but nothing since then. it was only this morning that the first of the rescued miners started to be brought to the surface. at the moment now, there are more than 300 rescuers below ground, 600 meeters below ground, trying to find the remaining miners that were entombed when the water broke through, but it is a remarkable bit of good news for the chinese mining industry which is widely regarded as the most dangerous in the world, 2600 miners died only last year, so it's been welcomed by the mining community in china and of course by the men's families. >>> a deadly bombing attac

betty nguyen has the latest. >> reporter: the prosecute filed a notice late last week asking to extende from 25 years in prison to life. in their formal aappeal prosecutors cited her "lack of remorse." >> that's ridiculous. first of all amanda showed a lot of devastation over the loss of her friend, but you don't apologize for something you didn't do. >> reporter: now knox's attorneys are firing back, filing their appeal. a 201 page document that attacks her conviction on three key points. her long initial interrogation by police when knox says she was forced to confess. what they call the prosecutor's contradictory evidence. her family says knox is trying to stay positive. >> she's hanging in there. it's always better for her when things are moving. it feels like the process is going forward so she'll get out. >> reporter: last month judges and jurors outlined their reasons for the 1rerd. they said knox did not plan the murder of her british roommate but took part in the killing and the coverup. an appeal could re-open the entire case. >> we're looking forward to having that opportuni
