american airlines flight attendant betty ong did something remarkable, she alerted american airlines what was happening in the sky. let's rejoin jessica aguirre in new york tonight. jessica, the ong family, san francisco natives still trying to deal with all this, are they in new york yet? >> reporter: no, they will be on a flight tomorrow. they'll arrive here on friday. when the memorial happens on sunday, they will be among the 15,000 grieving families here who have been waiting ten years for this tribute. and now they have the added burden of waiting and seeing what's going to happen, having to deal with potentially added security and really the emotional toll of not knowing if they're going to be safe or if this solemn tribute will be marred by any type of violence. the ongs told me that no matter what, they owe it to betty to be here. >> at that time, i felt i was listening to betty's voice for the last time. >> reporter: harry ong has grieved for ten years. >> the emotions, just overtook me. i was just shaking. >> reporter: yet his heartache today at the sound of his sister's v

the new rec center going up in chinatown will be named the betty ong rec center. y and his sisters a debt of gratitude for allowing us to share this painful journey with them and share so many memories of betty. it was an honor getting to know their sister. >> we are so thankful to them and betty is truly a hero. jessica, thank you so much. >> a compelling photograph to say the least. were they supposed to be on board flight 93? perhaps they knew someone who died on that flight which crashed in shanksville. tonight the pain of september 11th is being relived by families across the country and specifically here in the bay area. we bring in sherrill hurd who joins us from union city tonight with the story of a local connection to september 11th that many of us haven't heard about. >> all 40 passengers on board flight 93 are being honored in this park in union city. wanda green, a flight attendant from oakland is one of them. she is a mother daughter sister and friend. i sat down with two of her siblings and they took me back to september 11th 2001. >> stunning series

one of my favorite actors, and betty ong are from washington high school. the ordinance will declare washington high school day. also i will be honoring along with supervisor jane kim one of our city labor and community leaders, karen bishop, the president of san francisco unified school district chapter of sci you -- seiu. president chiu: i willl be introducing legislation to help our city small businesses comply with our americans with disabilities act. when i served on the small business commission i heard from hundreds of small businesses as we have around our districts in the city that have been sued allegedly for ada violations. since 2005, there have been five dozen lawsuits in california, and over 300 businesses in san francisco have been sued, some of the multiple times and some have closed their doors because of the suits. the proposal i am putting forth is about ensuring that we are encouraging full compliance with our accessibility laws in doing this in a way that is transparent, fair, and hopefully bring about more cooperation between small- bu

there was betty ann ong's family and the two roses. she was the flight attendant on flight 11 calling into operations to say, "i think we're getting hijacked." the endless etching today. children, determined to take those names home with them. and there was the girl who simply put her head down. at the pentagon today, another service. remembering the 184 killed on board that flight and inside the pentagon. and in shanksville, pennsylvania, and to that valiant team on board flight 93, who could forget, "let's roll," and the cell phone calls from inside that plane. >> please tell my children that i love them very much and i'm so sorry, babe. i don't know what to say. there's three guys, , ey hijacked the plane. i'm trying to be calm. we're turned around and i've heard that there's planes that's been flown into the world trade center. i hope to be able to see your face again, baby. i love you. good-bye. >> reporter: today, we heard the young voices, bringing comfort to that unforgotten field. while back in new york, paul simon, who said a
