betty white is one of those unusual people. but i don't think there's anything in popular culture that actually reflects the lives of all people because it's a down. and even not in popular culture, the hbo production alzheimer's project, which was the first real tv series to really examine alzheimer's and produced by british art for of course his father recently died of it. there was a lot wrong with that series. and one of the things wrong with it was, is it presented only nice long-term care facilities, or people -- it was horrifying enough. it didn't actually show what the people in the last stages of all timers are like, but there was always a caretaker, a home, a woman. there was nothing in that about the people who have no caretakers in the late stages of alzheimer's. people who are not in a nice nursing home whose life savings have run out and are in nursing homes on medicaid. and i've done articles on nursing homes when i was younger, and they are not nice places. and so that it did not in a way, issue the worst-case i

white house isn't so sure that's a good idea. susan mcginnis is in washington with more on this. good morning, susan. what's the latest? >> reporter: good morning, betty. well, as fresh air strikes have hit the region of brega, libya, this is the area with the big oil installation that the rebel forces so far have been able to hold onto, it looks like these opposition forces are becoming more organized, and more unified. they have formed the rebel national libyan council. it is now appealing to the west for military aid, something the white house will have to consider. u.s. officials remain wary about imposing a no-fly zone over libya. while stressing all options are still on the table, secretary of defense robert gates warned congress wednesday that taking such military action would be a huge operation that comes with its own risks. >> let's just call a spade a spade, a no-fly zone begins with an attack on libya. >> reporter: a no-fly zone would prevent libya from launching air attacks on its own citizens. yesterday troops loyal to moammar gadhafi's regime dropped bombs over the eastern city of brega, as they tried to retake a key oil installation. t

white house. susan mcginnis is in washington with much more on this. susan, what do you expect to hear from the president? >> hi, well, good morning, betty. the president will undoubtedly address the tragedy in japan, and the effect on hawaii, and the western united states this morning. no telling yet just how much that might disrupt his agenda. but, yes, as of now, libya and the increasing turmoil there, is on his agenda to speak this morning at 11:15 eastern time. libya is africa's third biggest oil producer. oil prices have really skyrocketed since the turmoil there happened. and, of course, across the middle east. oil is up to $107 a barrel at one point this week. also gas prices are on the president's agenda. the impact on u.s. budgets, the burden on u.s. households to pay for gas. we have gasoline at $3.50 a gallon on average in the u.s., nearing $4 in some areas. so this really has brought the president's whole energy policy into the spotlight. republicans calling for more u.s. production, that means drilling. democrats calling for opening up the strategic petroleum reserve to try to bring down prices. as of now, at least, that is
