our betty yu is in mission bay tonight with more on why there have been concerns about safety in thisy spot. >> reporter: the accident happened during the height of rush hour and traffic due to th giants game, so there were a lo of cars and pedestrians around at that time. a witness who called 911 told me off camera that she saw the young girl underneath the car and multiple people tried to help lift it. a nurse passed by and also performed cpr, but it was unfortunately too late. a four-year-old girl was killed. the parents were pushing their child in the stroller in the crosswalk when they were hit by the gray mercedes suv according to police. it also looks like the car hit a pole in the median. we later saw the driver sitting in the back of a police vehicle. witnesses said cars were able to turn at the time but had to yield to pedestrians they told us one driver in a white truck did so, but the driver in the suv was not able to. the father suffered life threatening injuries. the four-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital. the mothe was not injured. police said th victims were

[ cheering and applauseinatown is officially brighter and more vibrant than ever. bay area celebrity chef martin yan was on hand for the ribbon cutting. >> the lantern is a symbol of life. a symbol of celebration and a symbol of happiness. >> reporter: after the iconic lanterns were destroyed by hail, heavy rain and strong winds earlier this year, the chinatown merchants' association and the nonprofit be chinatown launched a fundraising effort for three blocks of new lanterns on grand avenue. many of the lanterns were torn and faded. the community raised $25,000. alaska airlines matched an additional $20,000 in donations. >> first of all, it gives color and it give energy, you know? everything is red. and also gives life to chinatown. >> reporter: line dancers and the grand avenue follies performed. supervisor aaron peskin was among the community leaders who attended. >> it has been the subject of racism and the people have been resilient. it's been the subject of a pandemic and hate and the people have been

as betty yu reports it's partnering with small businesses who are invested in the community and challengingtive. >> reporter: the sounds of jazz filled one of downtown san francisco's newest spaces. the dawn club. monday night. future bars which owns about a dozen popular bars in san francisco reopened the historic venue in june. the project has been years in the making. >> we didn't have any reservations about opening because weir so excited about what's going on in san francisco right now. people are coming back to the city. and we wanted to reinvigorate the legacy of the dawn club. we're in the exact same locationas the dawn club was all the way until the 1950s. ♪ >> reporter: the dawn club features local performers and cocktails and whiskeys inspired by the post prohibition era. future bars proprietor doug dalton is about mystic about the city's future and betting on tourism and convention traffic to rebound. the opening comes as new campaign to revamp san francisco's image rolled out. longtime san francisco resident cassidy zaire created we love sf. >> if the city wasn't facing a numbe
