ktvu betty yu has the latest from sonoma county. >> santa rosa police said they were called to a home on monarch court wednesday afternoon when they made the deadly discovery. it's located in a senior citizen community called valley vista. >> an associate of the family living out of state had not heard from anyone in the home for multiple days and requested to check the welfare. >> inside, they found four bodies. police have not released their identities or shared their relationship to each other. authorities said there was no threat to public safety and there are no outstanding suspects. it's unclear how the victims died. >> i did not hear gunshots. a neighbor had said that it was reported they had heard gunshots earlier. >> jerry shapiro lives nearby. >> i've never seen them. i've noticed the police have been out here a couple of times in the last few months to that resident talking to them for whatever disturbance, maybe. but i've never seen anybody come in or out. >> did you notice anything unusual at the home other than that? >> no. it's just always quiet. it seems empty, you kno

ktvu betty yu has more on the constitutional powers and limitations that the incoming president could face, as he takes action in the coming days. >> president elect trump said he's prepared to roll out a series of executive orders and other actions in the first days of his new administration. uc college of the law professor david levine expects a bold start. >> pardoning insurrectionists from january 6th, 2021. if he wants to pardon some or all of them. those are valid like that. nothing anybody can do about those because the pardon power is so clearly all powerful with respect to federal crimes, and it is totally within the purview of the president. that's at one end. at the other end, let's say he issues an executive order purporting to take away birthright citizenship. meaning if you are born in the united states, you are automatically a citizen of the united states. that goes back to the 14th amendment, that goes back to reversing the dred scott decision with respect to african-american slaves. and so the idea that he could change that with an executive order, i think, is extreme

ktvu is betty yu live at yerba buena high school with more on all the preparations and the pomp and circumstance morning frank. this parade and festival is to celebrate tet and the vietnamese community, or the lunar new year. now things are going to kick off at 10 a.m, but already we are at the start of the parade, and you can see there are several cars lined up, including lowriders, which are a big part of the san jose culture as well. now all of the festivities will start at ten and it will. it will lead up to a big festival at noon today in nearby little saigon, at the grand century mall. now there will be 35 floats today, and hundreds of students and volunteers on hand all weekend to help put on both the parade and the festival, which is hosted by the nonprofit the vietnamese american roundtable. now, after a hiatus, this is actually the second year the festival will welcome in the lunar new year. there will be food, live entertainment, a marketplace, and so much more. one participant tells me why it's so important for him to keep these cultural traditions alive. >> it's really important for

ktvu betty yu is live for us tonight on scene. and what are you seeing right now at this hour? y? >> well, right now there is still police activity here on scene. mike, this is being investigated as a homicide case. and santa rosa police have confirmed that the discovery of four bodies, all adults, inside a home located behind me, just past the police crime scene tape. and that police cruiser there this afternoon. we are on monarch court now. at this time, police have not confirmed the cause of their deaths, but they said that there is no ongoing threat to public safety and there are no suspects that are being sought. the identities of these victims and their relationship to each other have not been released at this time. police say that this all started around 3 p.m, when they received a call from someone out of state requesting a welfare check. now, monarch court appears to be a pretty quiet residential street. neighbors tell us that this area is part of a senior citizen community called valley vista, and homicides like this are highly unusual for this neighborhood. >> any tim

christina. >> betty yu live for us tonight in oakland. betty. thank you. new video tonight of a wild chase through sonoma and marin county, ending with the arrest of a felony suspect in san rafael. police released this video showing the suspect driving south on 101, in the northbound lanes in san rafael. this was just before two yesterday afternoon. sonoma county's henry one chopper followed that suspect, who was wanted out of rohnert park for a felony crime and assault of an officer. chp, in an effort to save lives, conducted traffic breaks preventing vehicles from driving onto north 101 in central san rafael. you can see that suspect identified as 36 year old casey beck, eventually driving toward the closure at the 101 580 split. and that is when a san rafael police officer used his patrol car to spin beck's vehicle. the maneuver worked, and officers jumped into action to the ground. >> stop the car while the car lay on the ground. on the ground right now. >> the suspect's car caught fire. one officer had to put it out with an extinguisher, while other o

our betty yu in menlo park with the crew that's ready to go. betty. thank you. with that in mind, the los angeles fire department is asking all off duty crews who were able to report back to work. the department posting this on social media as winds again are expected to pick up overnight, only worsening the situation while escaping the flames was terrifying for some evacuees. >> tonight i spoke with one woman who fled with her husband and son. here's how tricia cosentino describes her family's escape to safety. >> we started walking up the hill and as we got closer to the top, we saw smoke and they were telling us to leave. we had an evacuation order, but there was, there was. it was not safe to leave. we waited another hour and we heard that the police were doing escorts. so we got back in line and they were taking a dozen car cars down. and by that point they had moved all the debris because there were abandoned cars like dozens of abandoned cars. so we ended up going through the smoke and the flames and getting down to the bottom, which i thought would be go

. >> i'm betty yu and i'm mike mibach. right to the very latest. and the death toll increasing once again today. tonight, the los angeles county coroner confirming 24 people have died in the fires. the palisades fire has burned more than 23,000 acres. it is 13% contained. the eaton fire, burning in altadena and pasadena, now at 14,000 acres with 27% containment. all of these fires in the last week have destroyed more than 12,000 structures, combining to burn an area larger than the city of san francisco. firefighters tonight bracing for those. santa ana winds once again, starting as early as tomorrow. the national weather service has issued a red flag warning for much of the area. and tonight, officials giving an update on the preparations in place ahead of the incoming wind that could fuel the already destructive fires. >> we have the expectation of widespread critical fire weather conditions across the fire next couple days. that means north northeast winds gusting anywhere from 35 to 55mph, and those winds will probably be strongest on tuesday m

. >> i'm mike mibach and i'm betty yu, and now they're investigating how that may or may not be tied into the attack on new year's day. prior to the tragedy, shamsuddin jabbar made at least two trips to new orleans in the months leading up to the attack. the fbi says by using advanced meta glasses, jabbar recorded himself biking through the french quarter on one of those trips. investigators say he also had the video recording glasses on during wednesday's attack, but the glasses were not activated. this video, obtained by the fbi, shows jabbar with the glasses on during that new orleans trip, both state and federal officials reiterated that there are no other suspects. >> investigative details and evidence that we have now still support that jabbar acted alone here in new orleans. we have not seen any indications of an accomplice in the united states, but we are still looking into potential associates in the us and outside of our borders. >> the fbi also shared videos of jabbar placing ieds around bourbon street, and investigators say they found a transmitter intended to trigger the

ktvu betty yu joins us now from that scene. and, betty, what's the latest? >> that's right. claudine, we're here on monarch court, and santa rosa police can confirm that they discovered four bodies inside a home located behind me. it's located just past that patrol car. you can see with the passenger door open at this time. and santa rosa police are saying that at this time, they are investigating this as a homicide. you can see there are several officers here on scene currently investigating and collecting evidence, and we expect them to do that throughout the night. at this time, authorities have not confirmed the cause of death, but they've assured that there is no threat to public safety. police cannot say the identities of the victims at this time or their relationship, but i just spoke with the public information officer who said that this all began because they received a call from someone associated with the family and the residents inside the home around 3:00 today to do a welfare check. now, this is a quiet residential community. we're told this is for senior citiz
