with that, i want to introduce supervisor bevan dufty. >> good morning, everybody. this morning, i picked up " chronicle" and i was thrilled to see this as the opening story. i was reading this story and the reporter presented both sides. how are we going to pay for this, the reporter asked? he was being described as fiscally responsible and tight- fisted, and those are not usually words that are thrown in my direction, but it costs over $300 a day for a child to be in juvenile hall. we spend $114,000 a year to keep a young person in juvenile hall. the children we saw in the room today, by the time they are in second grade, what are david and i together? we share the community and children and schools with each other. by the time they are in second grade, they will know the difference between red and blue. it is a dividing line in our community and city. how wonderful it could be if we could aspire, that in 10 years, the red and blue would be the difference between stanford and cal? that is why i support this program. [applause] truly my favorite. they are here for you, vince. i am pleased to be swearing in six individuals and i am honored that two were recently and overwhelmingly supported by the board of supervisors as a member of their other applicants were rudely rejected for purely political purposes. but i am over that. but i needed to state that publicly. that is sometimes the way people act when they cannot make the right decisions. sometimes they make the wrong ones. in this case, they made the right ones with the two of you and supported vince courtney to the public utilities commission -- [applause] i guess i should have appointed him four years ago. little did i know. i should have mentioned him last time. that is unfair to the other commissioners. i know jason does not even have a friend here. bevan dufty played the foil well. this whole scene was to draw us in -- i like ed on a personal level, but he will work for the other side, a progressive colleagues. a progressive majority on this board of supervisors. we had an opportunity, and we made the biggest fumble of san francisco political history. the blame probably goes to many places, but it's certainly rest squarely on the shoulders of president david chiu, and i am going to be willing to point others out, as well. i will remain involved and active after this vote and after the gavel goes down on this meeting. i will haunt you. i will politically haunt you. for the biggest fumble in the history of san francisco politics. it is on, like donkey kong. president chiu: supervisor dufty? supervisor dufty: i think this shows how far we can let this process straight. i think that for myself, as much as i appreciate sherrif hennessey, whether we vote for him or do not vote for him, the positions he takes should be his decision. as part of our decision or the next
