with that, i want to introduce supervisor bevan dufty. >> good morning, everybody. this morning, i picked up " chronicle" and i was thrilled to see this as the opening story. i was reading this story and the reporter presented both sides. how are we going to pay for this, the reporter asked? he was being described as fiscally responsible and tight- fisted, and those are not usually words that are thrown in my direction, but it costs over $300 a day for a child to be in juvenile hall. we spend $114,000 a year to keep a young person in juvenile hall. the children we saw in the room today, by the time they are in second grade, what are david and i together? we share the community and children and schools with each other. by the time they are in second grade, they will know the difference between red and blue. it is a dividing line in our community and city. how wonderful it could be if we could aspire, that in 10 years, the red and blue would be the difference between stanford and cal? that is why i support this program. [applause] >> this is good. i am liking this. th

of course, our city attorney dennis herrera, who has taken the time to be here, phil ting, bevan dufty, the ubiquitous supervisor, and so many leaders, particularly from the labor community, chief of staff, and particular, the rank and file of my favorite local, 261. [applause] truly my favorite. they are here for you, vince. i am pleased to be swearing in six individuals and i am honored that two were recently and overwhelmingly supported by the board of supervisors as a member of their other applicants were rudely rejected for purely political purposes. but i am over that. but i needed to state that publicly. that is sometimes the way people act when they cannot make the right decisions. sometimes they make the wrong ones. in this case, they made the right ones with the two of you and supported vince courtney to the public utilities commission -- [applause] i guess i should have appointed him four years ago. little did i know. i should have mentioned him last time. that is unfair to the other commissioners. i know jason does not even have a friend here. [laughter] he does, jason elli

supervisor elsbernd: this could be my last time to get mad at bevan. there are times when people talk about you being the eighth vote when i feel frustrated, but that frustration went away within seconds, because i knew always it was not a political maneuver. it was that a huge heart you have in your chest. you are the most compassionate. your heart is huge, and i admire that in so many ways. i will always remember how wonderful you were to your parents. you are a great human been in. -- a great human being. supervisor mirkarimi: thank you. our final thing today -- our final honor read is -- honoree is supervisor maxwell. whereas supervisor maxwell is a long time community leader, and elected in 2000 and reelected in 2002 and in 2006, one of our largest geographical district, and whereas supervisor maxwell plan to come -- to improve the quality of life through the city. is the feet 17 years in the making. it has resulted in a stronger program institutionalized in our government, whereas the engagement in the intricacies of contacting has benefited many

bevan dufty. we need help. i am also getting telephone calls for other mothers who have lost their children. how can i help them if i have not had help for my son? how can i help them? how many years? how many years is it going to go? how many years are going to pass by before we get help? we are out here on the streets of san francisco ourselves as mothers trying to get justice for our children. we have to come up here to get help and try to get help from everybody. the new mayor, please help us. >> hello, supervisors. ♪ maybe i was not there for you for the city quite as often as i could have. i am so happy that this city is yours and mine. i was sorry, city, i was blind. but you were always on my city mind. you were always on my mind. you were always on my mind, you were always on my mind. tell me, tell me your city love and has not died. give me, give me one more chance to keep this city satisfied, satisfied maybe i was not always there for every item that came along boat maybe i was not perfect on my city,

bevan dufty played the foil well. this whole scene was to draw us in -- i like ed on a personal level, but he will work for the other side, a progressive colleagues. a progressive majority on this board of supervisors. we had an opportunity, and we made the biggest fumble of san francisco political history. the blame probably goes to many places, but it's certainly rest squarely on the shoulders of president david chiu, and i am going to be willing to point others out, as well. i will remain involved and active after this vote and after the gavel goes down on this meeting. i will haunt you. i will politically haunt you. for the biggest fumble in the history of san francisco politics. it is on, like donkey kong. president chiu: supervisor dufty? supervisor dufty: i think this shows how far we can let this process straight. i think that for myself, as much as i appreciate sherrif hennessey, whether we vote for him or do not vote for him, the positions he takes should be his decision. as part of our decision or the next

[applause] now on with the program. when phil told me he invited the speaker of the california state assembly to swear him in, i looked at him and said, are you kidding me? the governor is introducing his budget that we, sessions that week, there is no way he is driving down to san francisco for you on wednesday night. but it sure enough, here i am. i am not sure that bill asked me to introduce him, more so as payback for being the naysayer. we are so happy to have you here. i get to call you john, because this was before he became speaker. i first met john in 2008. bill said to me, my college friend is in town running for a board office in l.a.. we found ourselves having breakfast one morning. i thought, we are going to spend the entire breakfast talking about his candidacy, who was going to win. this is too much for a saturday morning. but sure enough, at one point, he stopped talking about the campaign and just start

would like to do is read from portions of various resolutions we have for supervisors alioto-pier, bevanty, sophie maxwell. continuing a tradition of service begun by her grandfather, joseph alioto, supervisor alioto-pier has created thousands of jobs and has participated in the first rebate program of the state. she successfully blocked the construction of new fossil fuel power plants in the southeast part of the city. she was the first supervisor to give birth while serving in office and worked to make our city more family friendly by passing a charter amendment to treat maternity leave equally and by creating a job share program at the board of supervisors. whereas she has spoken for civil rights, for people disabilities, and for all san franciscans, whereas she has worked with neighborhood groups in her district and around san francisco to preserve the unique character that makes our city special. where is she has balanced the demands of her job while maintaining an active family life with her three children and her husband, and whereas she has treated her colleagues, the treated her

i also wanted to thank supervisors -- supervisor bevan dufty as well as supervisor campos, so thanks to gavin newsom, and also jose cisneros. i am sure we will of some great results. commissioner: we really do have to work together to pass the dream act so we can bring all of our dreams to reality. thank you. treasurer cisneros: thank you. president mendoza: you are welcome to come any time. we have one speaker on this. >> thank you very much. it is a pleasure to follow treasury -- treasurer cisneros. another thing i would like to call your attention to is affecting very, very young children. i like following treasurer cisneros, because as a recent grandfather of triplets, this program is very important, and when you sit in the back of the room, and you do the math, when he says it really gets you going, that is really all that it does. we need special incentives there. if you look at the very bottom of page 23 on your agenda, you see there is $1,310 being given to the toddler program, and that is essentially to help the folks that are not our members. these are folks who are current

let me take a moment to thank form supervisors sophie maxwell, bevan dufty and michela alioto-pier for your support and trust in me. [applause] >> i am grateful and inspired by that show of support. but more importantly, i was inspired by what it portends, a new era of trust, a shared sense of purpose and commitment to this city that we all love, a sense of unity. i may be your interim mayor, but i intend to utilize this year in office to tackle our problems with resolve and a seriousness of purpose. this is an unprecedented opportunity, and perhaps it is just what san francisco needs at this time and in our moment of history. this is an opportunity to come together, to move the city forward, to roll up our sleeves and go to work on the significant challenges we all face for the benefit of all san franciscans. i hope to move us past the labels that have pigeon hold us at city hall or at least to not be bound by them. because if you're a so-called moderate, then i'm a moderate. i spent the past two decades trying to make this city work, to work for all of us. for its entire history, peo
