so obviously jeff bezos is at the top of amazon. can you catch us up here? why is the president going after amazon and do they really not pay any taxes? >> i think it is important to put this on two tracks. there is the personal track. the president has expressed antipathy for bezos and the "washington post" for a long time. a lot of that is the political coverage. his criticism that it pays taxes differently than other retailers, that fits in a line ever criticism that amazon has taken for years. under the obama administration, there was a bipartisan push to change the way internet retailers not just amazon pay taxes on sales sort of across the country. so it is not as though the president is coming from some wildly outside the mainstream position here. but it is intensely personally charged. >> yeah, let's not pretend that this is anything more than the president being upset with the "washington post," please. this is blue smoke and mirrors. >> he says he said it before the election. >> doesn't matter. it's still an impetus that he doesn't like them. where

also jeff bezos' fortune is considerably larger than trump's.this personal or is this all strictly business? >> i think i would be foolish to try and get into donald trump's head. clearly there are some business connections. the first you mentioned was "the washington post." the second is donald trump owns a large amount of retail real estate in one of america's most famous retail corridors, fifth avenue in new york city. the value of that real estate has gone down over the last year or two as amazon and other e-commerce companies have basically wiped out brick and mortar retail. the rise of amazon has had a real effect on donald trump's personal fortune, costing him hundreds of millions of dollars. >> i wonder if the bezos-owned "washington post" were to read more like a print version of "fox and friends," would the president even touch amazon's tax breaks? is the president putting a value on politically endorsing him in some way? >> i think you would be crazy to try to guess at that. certainly it's shocking that he owns "the washington post,"

and then there's the washington post angle as well, jeff bezos is kind of a central figure there. and president trump doesn't seem to be a fan of his, particularly. as far as who has more to lose, you know, i don't think amazon is going anywhere. you know, their stock has taken a dive but they're here for the long haul. and president trump will probably move on to another feud at some point soon. >> so, do you think that this is more personal than anything? >> it does seem to be. this is now something he has been talking about privately for a while. he is going publicly with these concerns with amazon and at the center of it seems to be this issue with the washington post. >> how do you see this playing out? >> i think he will keep criticizing amazon probably and i think he'll keep criticizing coverage he sees in the washington post and tying it back with jeff bezos and this claim that he has that there's a lobbying arm for amazon. but, you know, long term, this is not great for amazon to have the commander in chief and somebody who has a lot of controls over the economic levers c
